Re: 2015-2016 High Altitude Owners Thread

I tested out the recall update, it works. I put the car in reverse on purpose, undid the seat belt and opened the door and the car immediately went into park. I dont see any issues with doing the update. It doesn't cause anything annoying to happen and is a good backup in a worst case scenario situation.

It makes sense for auto park if you place it in reverse without pressing the accelerator

What about those folks that are (dumb) and place it in reverse and hit the accelerator 2mph and open the door.

Poor transmission

I could be wrong but I think the recall said it had to be below a certain speed...and that speed is very slow. So these Jeeps aren't going to all start self destructing transmissions now don't worry
And besides, if people start getting out of their cars while they are driving down the road then there is not a recall in the world for any car that can save those kinda people.

I got your point, but we sometimes(at least me) drive with the door open if I going to move it in my garage or driveway. My BMW has it and I hate it every time, you need move really slow to not slam the auto P to the poor transmission. I this time I don't even think to do the stupid update.

I believe it won't "auto park' unless you unbuckle your seatbelt. I will thoroughly test this when I pick up my car later today.

It is so much more appropriate than the vinyl with white stitching. Thanks to James for mentioning this to all of us.
What tools did you need to remove the old one and install the new one? It really only took five minutes to swap them? I hate having techs do stuff that I can do. Will my dealer let me take the new one home and install it? Or does it have to be swapped out at the dealership because they need the old one? Thanks.

The McGard model number is 64074. They have another set of black lugs that they say will fit, but when I looked at the factory lugs on my '15 HA, the 64074 have the same bulge that the factory lugs have. I read that someone here ordered the other set and they can see silver at the back of the hole or something. McGard also makes the OEM locking lugs for the WK2. That's why I went with them. And they're made in the USA with a lifetime warranty. They come four lugs to a set so I ordered five sets off Amazon for $26 each. They're pricey, but worth it to me.

Literally, minutes. If your slow, 10. Open the console lid; at the rear of the compartment is a plastic cap covering the hinge; simply pry it off to expose three Phillips screws; carefully extract the screws without dropping them and wiggle the lid/ arm rest off. My service advisor came with me to the parts dept and watched me swap them in the parking lot instead of spending hours for the service dept. to do it. Ask for this and maybe you'll get the same courtesy. Practice taking the current one off before going.

I ordered the 64074 McGard lugs too. I haven't received them yet. I remember on the site it said they were black chrome I think. Do they look black black like the Gorilla ones pictured on the forum or some weird blackish chrome as the title says? Thanks.

Reason I tried the gloss black is because I felt that after getting the window trim wrapped along with all the other gloss black on the HA that the trivalent bezels would look better in gloss black. It's minor, and easy enough to peel off, but I like it. I removed the bezels to install the wrap and it turned out perfect. Looks identical to the OEM ones.

How difficult was it to remove the bezels? I'm bringing my HA to a tint professional to tint the front windows and vinyl wrap the chrome around the windows. I was contemplating having them wrap every piece of the trivalent as well, but was wondering how tough of a job that would be. Could they wrap it all (grille, bezels, long strips on front and back) without taking any of it off the car? Thanks.

Did you wrap all of the trivalent or have it done? Could you wrap it all while it's still on the car? I'm going to have the window chrome done for sure and if they can do the trivalent without removing it from the car, I'm going to have them do that too. I'm just worried that if they have to remove it, they will break something. How is it attached anyway? Thanks.

It was all wrapped while on the car. They did remove the grille to wrap the whole piece, but I don't know if they removed each individual grille ring. Some of the vinyl on the rings has started to peel away in the corners, so I will probably end up just buying black rings instead of trying to fix the wrap.
