Jeep sold 3,467 more Grand Cherokees than 2014 6 mo., thus not quite keeping pace with big jumps for Explorer, Highlander and Pilot.

I passed two Exploder cop cars on my drive this morning. Would be interesting to see the numbers if that didn't include police vehicles. Or maybe it doesn't include them who knows. Either way I sat in a newer Exploder once and the interior is not even close to the same level as Grand Cherokee.

Re: 2015 6 mo. SUV sales update: GC still 2nd, but others outpaced its increase.

My brother-in-law is a big Ford fan, and they want to purchase a slightly-used SUV soon. They rented an Explorer (got a 2015, not the newest 2016 body style) this past weekend; drove it down to Boulder, CO, and back as a test drive. They took a small detour and picked up the parents first, so overall it was about an 11 hour drive. We met them there slightly later with our JGC.

The Exploder was a Limited with the V6, heated seats, and nicer sound system. The front seat was decent, about the same as the Grand Cherokee as far as space goes. But the view through the windshield wasn't as nice, especially for my wife who is about 5' 8". By the time she felt like she could see comfortably out of it, she had the seat jacked up to where her head was almost hitting the ceiling.

Back seat was a bigger disappointment. I know some leg room gets sacrificed so they can have a 3rd row seat, but the the seats weren't as comfortable, and combine that with the less legroom, and I was not impressed at all. Our uncle, who hosted all of us in Boulder, has a 2009 Honda Pilot that was more comfortable in every regard to the 2015 Explorer.

I was also not impressed with the V6 in the Ford Explorer, felt like the Honda had more get-up-and-go there as well, which is disappointing since that Honda is almost six years old.

I'm currently on a road trip ,been on the road for about 500miles or so . Another 600 to go in the next week or so.

The Hemi is running sweet on the 91 octane.

I see lots(well 6 really) of 2016 Explorers on the roads( highways, haven't seen any in town).
I gotta say...they look good!.

The next generation Grand Cherokees or going to have to bring it if they expects to challenge .

I still love love my rig tho.

This higher octane trick is working for me right now.

I swear I'm using less fuel !!!.
Prolly in my head tho.

Well, if you lump the Grand Cherokee and Durango together (they are similar) then it would be #1.

Yes, but then you'd have to lump the Traverse, Enclave and Acadia together, and then GM would be #1.
No matter how you slice it, Chrysler has done a great job with the GC; it appeals to a wide variety of buyers: hot-rodders, off-roaders, and those who really just need a wagon. And the interior is a step up from its Ford and GM competitors.
Now if we could just get that QC up to Japanese levels...

I'm betting on the same thing......exclude sales from police departments and show me the numbers...

Re: 2015 6 mo. SUV sales update: GC still 2nd, but others outpaced its increase.

Popularity doesn't mean a thing; it just means a lot of people bought it, but the reasons are many and varied (that goes for the GC too).

There is no need for the GC to be popular; who cares? Does it really matter if it sells in last place? It's still the vehicle that (at this point) meets my needs and desires the most. I don't need a bunch of other people to somehow validate my choice in cars.

If popularity meant all vehicles not in first place were worthless, we should all be driving f-150's; not likely (in my case anyway).

Re: 2015 6 mo. SUV sales update: GC still 2nd, but outpaced by others

The Explorer is ugly and for some dumb reason I owned a 2013 Explorer Sport. It was a shitty vehicle. Literally, the fit and finish was so off. The rubber trim around the windows outside, the rear passenger door didn't line up the body of the car at the bottom corner when closed. Several electrical gremlins, I'd be driving and it would say the key fob is not detected, sync would have to reboot. Sync would probably be the number 1 reason I'd probably wrecked that car if I had kept it. It was such a distraction. On top of that, the second row was tiny. I had two babies in baby carriers when I had that car and the front seats have to be smashed up against the dash to fit them. It sucked. On top of that I couldn't ever get a comfy driving position. The steering wheel felt like it was aimed up at the roof no matter how low you adjust it. And the black plastic interior. Don't even get me started. It was so cheap and ugly looking. So you're wandering why did I even buy it? I liked that it was a Sport and had the twin turbo ecoboost. Turned out, I couldn't stand it.

Does anyone else think the '16 Explorer front end is a complete rip off of the '14+ Grand Cherokee?
