2015 GC Altitude Value

Just wanted to get your thoughts on how well you think the value of the 2015 GC Altitude III will hold up or be stronger when compared to other models. With the discontinuation of the Altitude III for 2016, to get a similarly "looking" vehicle you have to step up significantly in price to the HA. Yes you are getting a fully optioned out vehicle, but that isn't what everyone is looking for or needs.

Just wondering if this will create additional demand for the 2015 Altitude III which should keep resale relatively high. Bought the lifetime warranty through Zeigler. So my two year old will be driving this in 15 years.

Re: 2015 GC Altitude Value

Which one are you referring to when you say Altitude III? Laredo Altitude or Overland High Altitude?

The Overland HA is available for 2016.

Re: 2015 GC Altitude Value

MDBones,
He is not talking about the High Altitude, he is talking about the regular Altitude edition and basically wondering how well it will hold its value since they no longer offer it. If you want that styling you have to step up to the more expensive High Altitude which not everyone wants/needs.

LOL... yes, I understood that. I wasn't familiar with the term "Altitude III" so that's why I asked... for clarification.

Oh ok gotchya, I have seen that term used around here and I believe it has to do with the different year Altitudes. I assume Altitude I is the older 2012-2013 Altitude, Altitude II is the 2014 to early built 2015 Altitudes, then Altitude III is the later 2015 version which had a few changes ontop of the 2014/early 2015s. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

And to the OP regarding the question here. Its tough to say, but yeah I think the fact that the base Altitude is no longer made will infact help resale value some....Not necessarily a lot though. Reason being is now people are going to be up against used High Altitudes and in comparison the High Altitude offers MUCH more.
So I think the High Altitude will hurt the Altitudes value some, but if you don't consider the High Altitude, then yes the used Altitude value will hold a little bit because you simply cant get them new anymore.

Re: 2015 GC Altitude Value

Except the fact that the high altitude is the summit body which a lot of people don't like and prefer the overland body. I would have paid 10k more for the overland body style HA vs a summit body style HA.

I think it will help hold value. People shopping for altitudes are not the same people shopping for high altitudes.

Re: 2015 GC Altitude Value

Me personally, I think the HA version with its premium price tag limits resale value. Unless someone is looking specifically for a HA and prepared to pay IMO they would go for an base Overland etc. The delta between a new 15 Overland and a HA was $10k (negotiated prices not MSRP) so I opted for the Overland. Purely based on resale.

Re: 2015 GC Altitude Value

How well it holds it's value will be affected by demand/appeal in your area for that "look"...and probably that will help a bit. Otherwise, it's still a Laredo and will likely track with Laredo values relative to other trim levels.

Re: 2015 GC Altitude Value

It is interesting to think about. Ever trip to NADA it.....you can't. It only has the Laredo, which I know the Altitude is based off of. But when you check the options there is no option for the 20s which I think change the value you greatly. So if dealers start using just the Laredo NADA values it will hurt us. But I think they may be smarter then that. I have in my area a few 2014 altitudes listed for sale. With 10k to 20k miles and their list price is in around 34k which right now I don't know if that's overpriced or accurate since I got my 15 Altitude in October for 36k. But with the discontinue I think will help us greatly bc the market for a HA is a lot smaller then the Altitude just due to the price tag.

Re: 2015 GC Altitude Value

While there are no numbers to back it up, the HA appears to be very popular based on posting activity, but yes, it's a different market segment than the Altitude was. The thing is, I believe that the HA came to be because there was great demand for something unique like the Altitude with a lot more features and the price point doesn't seem to have been a major penalty...again based on what's been posted. Jeep is going to take every advantage of moving buyers more "upscale" because there's a lot more profit available than on a Laredo based vehicle. They are further encouraging that with the lack of choices on drive train and options at the lower end. It's marketing and market positioning at work. And even so, every single JGC that leaves the factory floor (and the factory can produce as many as 1200 vehicles a day split about 70-30 JGC/Durango) is sold before production, either as an end-customer factory order or a dealer order for inventory. They must be doing something right!

Re: 2015 GC Altitude Value

Agree with all of this however theres a huge price gap between off the lot pricing and MSRP (sticker price) for everything below the HA's. When I was shopping I could get a JGK Overland $12 off list while $0 off the HA. I just couldn't believe that when I get rid of the vehicle in three yrs that I would recover the delta.
