2015 Grand Cherokee more reliable?

I am considering buying 2015 limited but I read all these horror stories from GC buyers. I am wandering do the 2015 model has less problems?

E all manufactures and model updates it takes a while for them to get on top of some issues
I would think the MY15 GC would be better than the MY14.

Check out this survey I created just a bit ago. I, like you were concerned about reliability as it seems 2014 was rushed. I found this thread very enlightening.

Owners: Would you buy your Grand Cherokee again?

After reading the replies, and contemplating a little further, I placed my order 2 weeks ago for a 2015 Grand Cherokee Overland!

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee more reliable?

The 2014 models had their problems, but they are getting worked out. I'm sure the 2015 models will have most of these issues resolved, but they also could bring new issues the 2014 models never saw.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee more reliable?

There is basically nothing new in 2015 (aside from a few Summit goodies) so yes, the issues of EARLY 2014 builds are resolved. In today's vehicles, there will always be software tweaks and updates though.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee more reliable?

Take this for what it's worth, but I purchased a 2015 last Friday and most of the stuff I read about in the forums is absent on my vehicle. The only real problem I've encountered so far is a harsh shift from 1st to 2nd gear when coasting. Other than that, no real problems at all so far....but I've got my fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Yes. You get to avoid 3 recalls, multiple software updates, a redesigned oil pressure sensor, and who knows what else. Thank us early adopters. ;-)

This really bothers me. I spent a year and 20k miles with a 14 trying to get this issue (among others resolved).I was able to dump my 14 without losing anything. I was hoping to purchase a new 2015 Summit, but I see one issue has not been corrected. I really miss my Jeep but I doesn't look I'll be in the market for a while.

I will say while I have been searching dealers lots in looking for a 15 Summit I see a lot of fitment problems with body parts seem to have been corrected. Tail lights, body trim, tailpipes, rear tailgate and dash panel etc. So someone is working on it. I don't understand the new issue with the 20" wheels. I never had an issue with that! Smooth as Glass!

Wait...so you had the same exact transmission issue that I mentioned? If so, please post in my thread found here:

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee more reliable?

Yes the same and worse. While I never felt it was going to leave me stranded i had several re flashes done. Some would hold for a couple of hundred miles and then it would come back. It got worse as it would downshift coming to a stop 2nd to 1st and it would surge forward or accelerate. The day I let it go was the last time the dealer was doing a re-flash. They asked for one more chance to make it right.I even had a new 14 Summit ready to pick up as they were doing to do a trade in as opposed to a buy back. I got to the street and jerked into first. I pulled back in the dealer and said I can't deal with this any longer.
They said Your Summit is ready to pick up. I said I can't deal with this in a Summit. It's not the fact you have issues with new vehicles, it's the fact no one knows or is trained to correct the issues.
I have to also add ,I have owned many vehicles close to about 35 or 40 and three were Jeep GC's. It just killed me when I realized I needed to get rid of my 14 GC. I just could not get the service I need from three different dealers. The service just sucked! The night I turned down the 14 Summit at my dealer I told the GM why I would not take it and all he said was he was sorry and didn't understand. To many issues from a so called premium brand. The day I got rid of it was bitter sweet. I was like a girl friend you have to give up because you realize the relationship is not going to get any better. As a builder I spent a lot of time in the Jeep.It was my office on the job sites. Comfortable,Safe, could handle almost any terrain and was great to look at.But there were to many quality control issues to deal with in a vehicle costing this much. I'll be back when the issues are resolved.

I wouldn't quite go that far, but if you like the little extra VRRRROOOOM factor, and don't mind paying for more gas, the V8's (and diesel's) transmission does seem to have far fewer issues.
