2015 Grand Cherokee Towing Question

I have a brand new 2015 Overland V6. What is the rule of thumb on how long to wait before towing? I have a boat that weighs around 4000lbs that I would like to tow this summer. It seems in the past there was a "break in" period and you had to wait 3k miles or so before towing anything. Does that still apply? Also what mode is best to tow in (sport, eco, etc...)? Any advice would be great.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee Towing Question

I'd wait at least a 1000 miles.
I'd shut ECO mode off.
And I'd keep the trips shorter and slower at first.
Is that 4000lbs boat and trailer or just boat?
You will need a weight distribution hitch and trailer brakes (most likely electric).

Boat and trailer 4k max with gear. The trailer has surge breaks.

2015 Grand Cherokee Towing Question

the GC does not have an official "break in period." However, I would take it easy pulling a heavy load right off the bat. I do believe there is something regarding towing on a new motor.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee Towing Question

The GC does have an official break-in period. The owners manual says don't tow anything in the first 500 mile and during the first 500 miles of towing "do not drive over 50 mph (80 km/h) and do not make starts at full throttle. This helps the engine and other parts of the vehicle wear in at the heavier loads."
