Another reason I order mine and insist on being there when it arrives at the dealer.
yeah id be suspicions of what they say, dealers usually have a motive in everything they say and do. listen to advice from others you trust with experience on both engines but don't ever rely on anything a dealer tells you.

Along with the fact if Obama was buying a Grand Cherokee, he'd most likely get it with the V-6.

Yeah, you are probably he doesn't need to prove anything at a redlight or with a HEMI badge.

When you don't do anything, you can't prove anything.

Not to turn this political, but Obama had a WJ with a 4.7 and he had a 300C with a Hemi.

Of course he had to jettison them and do the Green car spin and bought a Escape Hybrid

Google left lane news, Obama's Grand Cherokee

Seems the Pentastar isn't doing so bad.

Notice the diesel took over soon as it was released and the pentastar is nowhere to be found

I have both a Hemi and a Pentastar in my garage. I have the Hemi in the Jeep and the Pentastar in my 200. Both engines are strong in those vehicles.

So realistically, I have zero use for a 4WD. I like having the extra power and torque a V-8 offers, so that's why I'm leaning heavily towards it.

As I mentioned, I don't buy new vehicles that often. I'm 62 and retired, and don't drive all that much, so I don't care about fuel economy. Unless this new Grand Cherokee gets demolished or stolen, it could very well be the last vehicle I buy. I would like to think I'll live long enough to wear it out, but that's not being realistic. By the time that happens, I probably won't be able to drive anymore.

My last 2 new cars were 1991's, and I'm still driving both. A 1991 Ford F-150 with a 5.0 V-8, and a 1991 Mustang LX 5.0 V-8. When I bought the truck new I wanted the 5.7 Ford 351 V-8. But the dealer didn't have any, and I let him talk me into the 5.0. BIG MISTAKE! He told me there wasn't much difference in performance, and all I would get is way worse fuel mileage. I believed him.

I've regretted it ever since. My F-150 can't get out of it's own way. 6 months after I bought it, my neighbors son purchased the exact same truck with the 5.7. It ran circles around my 5.0. I should have listened to my instincts. I don't want to make the same mistake twice. That's why I want to talk to people who have driven both.
Sounds like you are used to having the torque of a V8 under your foot. The 6 cylinder might be OK, but if it was me with your current vehicle history, I'd get the V8. Remember the WK2 even in 2WD and the small 6 cylinder weighs at least 4,500 lbs. That's a lot of weight for the standard 6 cylinder to move around. For me, I took a demo in a 6 cylinder GC and while it was just mediocre at best, the V8 was an easy decision. I've had my 2014 Summit for over 2 years now and never once regretted getting the V8. But it's your decision. Good luck.

I'm definitely getting the HEMI. For me, I just can't see having a V6 in such a heavy, high profile vehicle. Yeah, I know the 6 performs pretty well in the Grand Cherokee, and it has a lot of satisfied owners to back that statement up. With that said, the HEMI has the same better performance upgrades the Penstar has, like VVT and 4 valve heads.

So they've pretty much paralleled each other in technology advancement. No matter how you cut the cake, the HEMI will outperform the Penstar in most every way. Based on that, the HEMI it is. I don't relish spending the extra cash. The last time I bought a vehicle, a V-8 upgrade was just a couple of hundred bucks more. But as they say, buy once, cry once.

I would only be crying if I'd bought the V6 and later realized (as most probably do) that sh*t, I shoulda' got the Hemi! When I enter the merge lane, put the hammer down & the Hemi roars past those other cars, I can't stop smiling! Mileage be damned . . . that is the fun factor x 10!! And I can only imagine how great the SRT must be to drive! As I've said before, there is no replacement for displacement! If you want better gas mileage, you should be driving a Prius!
