The RAM hemi with the 8sd is one of the nicest smoothest setups i have driven in a long time. I had 4x4 one for a loner when my 2014 GC hemi was in for service and that RAM flys. When i got back in my GC i felt like something was wrong with it, felt sluggish and slow. Drive them back to back the difference will surprise you.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

4x2 is absolutely a little lighter...there is "less stuff" hanging under there!

But when comparing JGC Hemi to RAM Hemi, there are likely other factors involved that express the difference in horsepower between them for the "same" engine. There are also transmission differences because of the nature of an SUV vs a pick-em-up-truck.

Does anyone have any numbers, (0-60....1/4 mile, etc.), for the 8 speed transmission vs. the 5 speed in the 5.7 HEMI, with all other things being equal?

I had a 2015 Ram 4X4 Hemi as a loaner when mine was in the shop. I think the main reason the Ram felt a bit faster was because it's noisier inside than my Summit. So you think it's faster than it really is. They are both heavy vehicles.

I agree bob it was noisier but the powertrain just felt much better to me more responsive more peppy. It really moved hitting the gas. Low Gears in the rearend maybe ? No idea what they were that pluse a little more hp that it has who knows. That 390 version of the hemi, the 8spd and whatever gears they got in it were a very good combo imo.

I didn't think about the rear gears. Had to be a higher numerical ratio than our Jeeps since the RPM's were higher at 60 mph than my Jeep. That along with the HP would make the difference.

Just curious where this info is supported. I can't seem to find anything about this, especially for late model GC's. MDS works great in mine.

Yup...

Car and Driver lists the specs for the 2015 Dodge Ram HEMI V8 as:

- EPA: 15/22 mpg
- 0-60: 5.4 seconds
- HP: 395
- Top Speed: 106 (which is pathetic IMHO)

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

I had a RAM 1500 Hemi before my CRD Summit. Was a great truck...smooth and fast. But it NEVER got much better than 15-16 MPG on the hwy and usually 13-14 around town. It was a 100.00 a week habit @ 3.80 a gal back then..in gas...
With the CRD I have the best of both worlds ( At least in my mind..)
The diesel is strong between 0-70 and I can't put 40.00 a week in it currently doing basically the same things....

Gas won't be 2.50 a gal forever.. we are only one world crisis away from 4.00 gas again and then 30 MPG will shine....
