Oh, I felt that rumble in my previous old 2012 Overland V8, but not on this one.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

Another thing I learned after spending some time on Ziegler's website, is what brands and types of vehicles to stay away from. This is made evident by them not even offering coverage on several models, and charging up the ying yang on many others depending how they are equipped.

Coverage is either non existent or VERY expensive on most Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Volkswagen models. Put a diesel engine in any of them, and it becomes even worse. That surprised me. So much for, "German engineering and craftsmanship". These plans are no different than categorizing health care plans based on lifestyles of people. If you're a skydiver who smokes 2 packs a day, you're going to pay more for health and life insurance, because you are more likely to die than a guy who doesn't, and goes fishing for a hobby.

By the same token if insurance companies won't offer you a lifetime care plan for your vehicle, or else want to charge you more than it could possibly be worth, it isn't because it's not likely to break down with expensive repair bills. Insurance is based on odds, nothing more. This regardless of what is being insured, be it people, houses, or cars and trucks.

Based on all of this, I've got a lot more confidence in my Grand Cherokee HEMI 2WD purchase. While $2,300.00 and change isn't exactly cheap, it is affordable considering the overall protection it buys on such an expensive and complex vehicle. Especially when compared to other brands in the same, or higher price ranges.

Or, you know, just maybe purchase price has something to do with it? Cost to replace it or find parts etc? Nah. Probably just high insurance because it's German.

I thought that as well until I read they wouldn't touch a Volkswagen Jetta diesel. They're not bad price wise. I even considered getting one. I had a 1979 Rabbit Diesel that ran well. I had heard the newer Jetta diesel's were dog's with fleas mechanically. They pretty much confirmed it.

I drove both and to me there was no comparison I went with HEMI 5.7 I bought it last Feb, and have had zero issues, except for 3 recalls, I've only had the oil change over to synthetic (Mobil One) and tire rotations, I have never regretted my choice. gas mileage was never a consideration mine is getting 13 in town and 22 hwy and I usually have my foot in it so yeah you will love the HEMI

You should check with Clay at Zeller motors... he will usually beat Ziegler's price and its the very same coverage...

Did I get this right? I spoke to the dealer today about the lifetime warranty. He said it covers you until 100K on the clock or 7 yrs. IF the repair is more than the worth of the vehicle late in the game. All bets are off. Does this sum it up ?

No, that's not accurate, at least relative to the miles and years. The Lifetime MaxCare extended service contract is for the "financial lifetime" (my words) of the vehicle, not for any specific mileage. (The rental/loaner coverage does expire at 7 years) And it is true that if a repair exceeds the value of the vehicle (years down the road), the contract will come to an and and you'll only get that value.

Your dealer clearly hasn't read the actual contract! Sheesh...

I chose the Lifetime contract because while I only expect to keep the vehicle 5-7 years, I'm piling up the miles due to business travel. There are other versions that ARE based on miles/years that are more suitable (and less expensive) for folks who know about how long they will stay in the JGC and what their annual miles will be during that time period.

And my contract has already paid for itself due a need to replace an expensive part that wasn't operating correctly.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

I see this as a possible problem years down the road. Especially if the vehicle has low miles in relationship to it's age, and is in good overall condition otherwise, except for the problem at hand. How is value determined? Kelly Blue Book? High? Low? Somewhere in the middle?

I live in Arizona where it is relatively easy to keep a car in good shape if it is garage kept, and receives a reasonable amount of care. These are the 2, 1991's I'm currently driving. They would be worth a bit more than what they might place them at by scanning some book. I intend to have my Grand Cherokee look much the same in the year 2039. What then if it needs a new tranny or engine??

I have a 12. I drove the 2014 V8 for 2 months and the rumble at switch is still there.
My 12 has the fishbite update so the switch is not as pronounced.
