Yeah i agree with you on that you see people that are on the fence regret not getting the v8 but not really any that bought the v8 and regret not getting the v6. Yes if you are on the fence get the v8 or you will likely just wish you had later on.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

I have a 14 Limited Hemi 4x4. At work I drive a 14 Laredo V6 4x4.

On the hwy my Hemi easily matches the V6 in mpg. The V6 has to downshift a lot when it encounters hills or to over take a vehicle. The Hemi just stays in 8th and torques up the hills or around a car.

The V6 is reasonably peppy around town but if you drive the Hemi like you have to drive the V6 your gonna be having some good fun.

I also have a K&N Cai on my Hemi and MagnaFlow cat back. Let's the Hemi sing without sounding like redneck straight pipe like.

The ZF 8 speed mated to the Hemi is perfect. In runs well in Eco, non Eco and gets all crazy in Sport mode.

The 8-speed in the V6 is a licensed ZF design built by Chrysler. The Hemis 8-speed is the same used in many high end cars and supplied by ZF of Germany.

Love my Limited Hemi.

2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

I had a 2011 GC limited 4x2 5.7 hemi (5 speed trans). Loved it. Average 16mpg over 85,000 miles.
I now have a 2015 GC limited 4x4 3.6 (8 speed trans). Love it. Average 21.5mpg over 1,000 miles.

I loved the hemi I but don't miss the hemi. The v6 w/ 8 speed trans gives me good acceleration when passing on the highway. I do like getting 5 more mpg, even though gas is cheap now. My bigger regret about getting the 2011 was that it wasn't 4wd. I have that now on the 2015. Given the choice I would choose it over the hemi.

Just my opinion...

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

I bought a used 2014 Overland 4X4 with the Hemi at the end of December. I bought it because I loved the color combo (Black Forest Green with Frost interior) and didn't really think too much about the V8. Three months later and I love the Hemi. It rides so smooth, and when the Eco Mode is turned off, it really moves for such a big vehicle. All this, and I do zero towing and 90% of the time I'm the only one in the car. Still, if the V6 and the V8 were sitting side by side, I'd take the Hemi. For what it's worth, I paid $35k for mine, used with 24,000 miles. I've loved every minute of driving it this past winter and with all of the snow that we get in Cleveland, I can't imagine not having a 4wd. Obviously Arizona is a much different climate, you're set on the 2wd, but I highly recommend the Hemi just for the sheer fun of driving an SUV. Good luck!

Effortless, grin factor, nice hemi growl and knowing nobody or almost nobody can beat you at a trafic light

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

Let's put all the BS aside ... when somebody asks what engine is under the hood;

Doesn't "It's a HEMI"

sound better than "It's a Pentastar" ?

I would bet that a majority of 8cyl owners don't actually utilize the additional horsepower/torque but bought one just to say they have a HEMI.
Using that logic, the SRT's should be sitting on the lots covered with cobwebs heavily discounted. Seriously, there's not a thing wrong with the Pentastar, just a matter of individual preferences. Jeep offers three great engines for the Grand Cherokee.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

The HEMI is pretty nice for power but you will use a lot more fuel over the course of a year, especially if you have a commute of any distance. If you never plan on going off road and you don't think you'll ever need to tow anything significant, then the V6 is more than adequate for city and highway driving, especially in the 2 wheel drive configuration. However, if you desire power and fuel economy, I highly recommend the diesel. The lowest trim level it's offered in is the Limited, should run in the mid to high 30s in 4x2 if you don't go too heavy on the options. You'll have nearly the same towing capacity as the HEMI, it will fly when you want it to and you'll get 500-600 miles on a tank. But if you think the HEMI is rare, the diesel is even more so. You'll probably have to order it but I would also try carmax.com. The one in Georgia sells new Jeeps and they will ship it to the store nearest your home for a small fee.

Seems the Pentastar isn't doing so bad.

I'm not talking about SRT8's. I wouldn't put those in the same category as the other 2 options.

I like creature comfort as well. I also like power & performance. I feel that my V8 powered Overland gives me everything I want.

I'm a competitive guy. Always have been & hopefully always will be. To me, "beating" someone means different things. Faster isn't always the goal. Sometimes smoother and slower wins the "race".

And the day I stop caring about things like the thrill of driving well or the joy of catching the eye of a lovely woman is the day I'm ready for the pile.

And some folks think that LIFE is either a Race, or the Greatest Journey of them all. Pick you speed and course accordingly.
