I wish I bought the V8 for sure

this is what I just snapped from my Jeep ..

No, it was not 30 seconds. If you look at what I posted it was on a 100 mile trip that was almost 2 hr's.

It was driving from Central MA to Central NH. Not exactly flat either.

And it was on Regular 87 gas.

I don't get that, that often but 27 fairly easily on the highway.

It goes down fast if you cruise faster.
A couple pounds air in the tires can make a significant difference too.
Type of tires you use makes a difference.
What you use for oil can make a difference.
Time of year.
And how broken in.
And HOW you drive. Even on the highway.

Granted if I drove with the same conditions with the V8 I might get 25 MPG. And if it was the diesel I'd probably be pushing 40MPG.

By the way the EVIC Average MPG only keeps the last 300 miles or so. So the MPG your showing is for the last 300 miles, not the 3000 miles.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

This again...sighs. How many times over the years have we had the should I get the v6 or v8 discussion? And lets not forget the 4x4 or 4x2 discussions. Everyone is going to vote for whatever they happen to drive as best and why would anyone drive anything else.

My opinion...stops to put on flame suit.... is if you want a 4x2, v6, with stellar fuel economy you're at the wrong dealer. Kia makes a nice little SUV as do others. Too many mall rated Jeeps down here. Anyone want to go wheeling with me tomorrow, my Jeep needs to go get dirty?

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

well....somehow I managed to drive 8000+ miles and only average 16.4MPG

I drive with a heavy foot but I've never personally seen the 20's as far as MPG...I tried driving light tonight on the highway and managed 20MPG for like 2 miles...then it was back to 16-17

Cheers to you for getting that..because I can't seem to do it

Well said! If you bought a Jeep SUV, it was not because of the gas mileage! I've owned 4 bangers, turbos, V6's, small block V8's, and now the Hemi. I love my Hemi & could care less about gas mileage! The Hemi Jeep is a blast to drive, & I love the sound, I love the acceleration & I love the reliability of a V8!! The V6 for me was just soooooooo boring! You buy what you want & be happy with it!

Well just remember stock everybody has the same engine v6, v8 or diesel the person and the environment are the variables. The EPA mixed numbers are 19 for v6 and 16 for the v8, a 3mpg difference those are supposed to be the averages but you will have people all over the map some higher some lower. You are one of the lower and probably would get the same mileage on either engine lol. in the end there is not a dramatic difference in mileage between the two engines like some one said above you don't really buy this heavy vehicle if fuel savings is high top priority there are better choices out there. on the other side the diesel engine will do superior on mileage but always factor in that higher cost of fuel which can be very dependent on your area to see if you have a savings overall, some people yes and some no.

I'm happy with my V6. My trip B shows 2300km over 41.75 hours and 12.8 L/100km average. That works out to 32 MPH and 18.5 Miles per US Gallon. Not bad considering most of that was during cold weather and the engine is still in break-in mode. (only 4300km so far).

Diesel would be the way to go and I would have ponied up the extra money for the engine but unfortunately Diesel is 20% more than reg gas up here.

Diesel is more than 20% more around here.

Also be aware that the EVIC only shows Average MPG for a limited distance.
Like last 300 miles.

Wait first you argue let people decide what they want.

Then you continue the argument suggesting they shouldn't get a V6 4x2 even if that's what they want. There are people and a market for Summit 4x2 V6's.

I got V6 4x4 because it meets my needs.

If I did want a smaller SUV I'd definitely get a Cherokee. Kia gag me.

I could argue why on earth get an SRT if you really want a sports car.
Doesn't Kia make something sporty

Yeah diesel is often a good fuel savings in other countrys than US but here its a mixed bag, depends where you are. for me its around $1.00 more a gallon so there is not much of a financial fuel case for it. You would be buying it because you want it or need it for other reasons.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

No matter which engine one chooses, its good that Jeep even has these options especially with the older Hemi. My only beef with the 5.7L engine is that it is detuned- the Ram uses the same engine as one of the options but it is rated at 395HP which to me makes more sense as the new 2016 models seem to be heading towards that direction.

Re: 2015 Grand Cherokee - V-8 Or V-6 ??

I test drive the 2014 V-6 last year and just drove the 2015 V-8 today. It's been a while since I drove the 6 and didn't want to push it with the dealer since I wasn't pulling the trigger today, just driving to see what the 8 was like.

My impression of the 8 was very positive - except for the MPG's. The dealer who drives the car regularly on backroads said he gets about 13 and would get about 18 on the same roads with the 6. Not sure if he was trying to push me into something they had in stock or what but that's a decent gap.

Performance wise the 8 really moved effortlessly and I liked that a lot. I think I remember the 6 feeling a little more sluggish. My Dad also had a 2009 ML with a 6 and that had a similar feel - the engine had power but the weight of the car made it feel like it was straining a little.

I don't really need the 8, I just love driving and it was really fun to drive. Still torn.

Unfortunately the diesel isn't an option because my wife makes mostly short trips and we also have bad winters with no garage so waking up to plug in a block heater doesn't really appeal to me.

The way I've seen most dealers drive their demo vehicles, I'm surprised he was able to get 13. Even a Prius driven the way most of them drive their freebies would have a hard time getting decent mileage. One of my friends who recently retired now shuttles vehicles between dealerships and says the biggest perk is to "drive 'em like we stole 'em!" Another reason I order mine and insist on being there when it arrives at the dealer.
