It's an interesting idea, but...what percentage of the market actually would buy it? It's expensive to the manufacturer to make offers like this when there is limited interest. Enthusiasm in these forums isn't a good indicator of popularity for this kind of thing as "we" represent a very small fraction of the buying public for the 1200 vehicles that roll off the line PER DAY at the Jefferson plant. A "de-chromed" body-color option might be a better seller and get folks at least closer to the "black out" look if they buy a black or granite colored vehicle--and they are already partially experimenting with that on Summit with that special package for MY15.

While I'm not personally into the black-out look, I could absolutely be interested in more unique color choices. That might actually be "possible" with the new paint system, but honestly, the economics of production may not allow realization of that to the extent that a few people like me might like. And I can only buy one vehicle every four to seven years...so my want is even more insignificant than other possibilities.

Fortunately, the aftermarket market is pretty strong these days and one can mold their ride the way they want it with off-the-shelf stuff. It only takes money...

Chevrolet is doing it with the Camaro. This is the problem in having so many trims.
I remember the good old days (before packages) when quite a number of options could be ordered as a standalone regardless of trim level.

That's a hard system to manage. It's not just marketing strategy... today's order entry systems and production lines have been streamlined for high daily build rates and simply wouldn't be able to support special orders like that. Doing something like that today would also add cost and that would certainly get passed on to the customer.

If as you say, Chevrolet is currently doing that with the Camaro, then I'd really like to know how they're pulling that off short of having a dedicated line to do that.

Yeah the option to black out my Summit from the factory would have been nice, or the ability to order the ORAII...

Re: 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude III

So...devil's advocate. Just what would an "Overland Altitude" be? In the Altitude's present form, it's primarily a base Laredo with a defined set of popular options at an attractive price point to generate volume sales. The only other thing they did was add a couple of visual alterations (grill, etc) from the base Laredo but that look isn't what defines it in a primary sense. Would you have an "Overland Altitude" just be a set of visual differentiators or that plus certain other options that are not already part of or available on the Overland trim level?

This question could be easily answered by looking at the options available on an overland vs an altitude.

RA 4 uconnect,Pano roof, air suspension, tech features like adaptive cruise and lane departure etc. also the V8 would be an option along with the diesel.

The altitude package is only missing the HID LED lights in its current form of you ask me and I'll be pissed if they get it now.

Re: 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude III

skunkd, all those things are already available on the Overland. What I'm asking is what would define an "Altitude" version over a "regular" Overland?

Overland base + the following package = Altitude Overland

20x8.0 Gloss Black Aluminum Wheels (WHF)
265/50r20 BSW All Season Tires (TV9)
Black Headlamp Bezels (MFA)
Body Color Claddings (MRV)
Body Color Fascia (MCY)
Body Color Grille w/Platinum Accent (MF7)
Gloss Black Fascia Applique (MCH)
Jeep Black Gloss Badging (MIC)
Neutral Grey Satin Gloss Tail Lamp (LAE)

Would much rather have this from the factory vs piecemeal it together myself. In Texas those standard Overland cooled seats are a must - no swamp a$$ 👍

There is absolutely no reason not to piece this together at a nominal cost. Everything is cosmetic and easily available at this time. If JEEP offered this package at an Overland level, it could very well cost more MSRP than just updating these looks. If you wanna save a ton of money I heard PlastiDip is the new cheap craze lol....

As for the Altitude 3 that is coming very soon, I believe that it might offer what us Altitude folks have asked. Blacked out tail lamps, black window trim, maybe something else cosmetic. To me they didn't need to make new tooling so therefore there was no monster cost to create an updated Altitude.

Wouldn't be any different than the Blacktop package they now offer on every model of the Durango, so no reason Jeep can't follow suit.

Duh... It would be blacked out version instead of that chrometastic disaster that it is now.
