Any idea why they are changing the paint system? Will it improve the quality of the paint?

I wanted to revive this thread around the paint upgrade.

For the folks in the know, is it worth waiting to find a post paint shop upgrade build? Were there significant improvements to the paint process?

Ready to buy so wondering if I should scoop up a Dec 2014 build (2015MY) or look for a Jan 2015+ build.

thanks

Its not like pre-new system rigs were bad just not as consistent as anyone inside JNAP or customers wanted. My 11/6/13 build paint is beautiful but I did pass on two rigs for debris and runs in paint. That probably wouldn't be the case now. That said, an inside source (not Milous) said the new paint jobs are awesome and more importantly to him, the same rig to rig.

Yes not many color choices right now on dealer lots. Have been to 2 dealers in past week and all they have are granite, black, white I'am waiting to see dark cherry in person.

Milous, have you heard anything about the "refreshed" MY 2016 paint colors?

I have been wishing for a medium blue; the current blue (and green) are so dark they might almost as well have been black because the color only shows up decently in bright sunlight.

Rexlion, I honestly don't believe you'll see "new" colors for MY15 at this point. You may see new colors for MY16 later this year. The new paint system will certainly allow them more flexibility, according to what's been posted, but that capability may very well not be used right away.

Re: 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee colors to be discontinued per ARIFLEET

I just picked up a Jan 15 build Granite Overland. Not sure exact build day, but judging from the inventory tag for the windshield that was left on at delivery (1-28-15 @ 10:50 PM) its down the line using the new paint system, so not a first run.

Can't really compare it to previous version since this is my first Jeep in years, but I have about 3 spots where I have either fisheyes or debris spots - basically specs that were painted over. Otherwise it seems to be a pretty good paint job with no more orange peel than I am used to on german cars.

Of note, I also have a 2014 Audi A6, which has a 'high QA' paint process that involves emu feather cleanings and hand inspections/buffins on the line and I also have about 2-3 similar spots on that paint job - so really the Jeep is on par with a luxury car like Audi.

I need to post my thoughts on the Jeep on a separate thread, its the wifes car and she came from an Audi TT roadster and she seems to like the Jeep - only time will tell if she LOVES it. Will say what an improvement from the WK.

Let me know if anyone has any specific questions on the paint quality.
