After getting my 2015 Altitude's oil changed, I stopped at the Ford dealership across the street that was selling a 2015 Overland with an Altitude package - it looked nice with the black wheels, trim and Jeep logos. The window price was $37000, and it had about 11k on the clock. Likely it was a lease return.

After a brief conversation the sales guy took my keys to get a quote on my 2015 Laredo Altitude.

He came back with a $1500 discount on their Overland and $22000 for my Laredo.

Considering I bought my Altitude about 2 years ago for $34000 OTD, should I be surprised, with only 11k on the clock, it has depreciated almost $12k in 2 years?

If what you mean by duds being problems with the vehicle, then no the 2015 model is not a dud. If anything its the 2014 that suffered the most issues, but from what I can tell maybe those are worked out by now with software updates and what not. The 2014/2015 shifter IMO works just fine, and now with the recall is a little less fail proof. As far as trade in value, that has always sucked for pretty much all cars so thats nothing new.

Early MY14 had software issues with the then-new 8 speed transmission. That was all resolved. MY14-15 do have a shifter design that has had, um...a lot of discussion ;) ...but that design was replace for MY16+ with a shifter than has a more "traditional" feel. I do not feel that any of these model years were "duds" in any way, but will certainly admit I wouldn't want an early build for both MY11 and MY14, personally.

I've looked at local dealer prices on Altitudes with 30k miles and there were a few at $30k. I've always sold my cars privately and ended up with a few thousand more then any dealer would offer.

As far as duds I have a late 2014 and have only brought it in once for an oil pressure sensor that failed. You can go on any forum and read people complain about their car like it's end of the world and how could XXXXX company let this happen and blah blah blah. In reality the issues are limited and have become almost non existent from the WK2's 2014 refresh to current.

It also helps if you have a diesel. I sold my 24k mile '14 Limited diesel that was almost spec'd to Overland trim with ORA2 and advanced tech for $37,000 to a private party last February. I took less than $9k depreciation in 20 months of ownership and 24k miles.

I traded (not sold) and got $32K back on a 2014 Limited with 27K miles and 18 months and paid $37K.

Nothing to do with diesels.

Jeep resale value was very good a for a couples years and is now back to "normal" and not worse than most vehicles.

I purchased my '15 overland 4x2 V6 w/adv tech for 39+TTL.

Last time I was at the dealership looking at the '16 HA they offered 35k for my vehicle. Not bad for a year and half year old vehicle.

You'll always get depreciation. How much depends on how well you negotiated the initial sale price of your jeep.

Sooo...with all the grief I went through trying to 'upgrade' my Jeep's side view mirrors, I just bought a model with the upgraded mirrors!

Ironically it ended up being the same Overland for sale at the Ford dealership I visited last week. I went back a few days later, armed with fair market value and knowledge of a similar sale at another dealership. 2 1/2 hours later I drove off with an out the door price of $35500 ($32723 + fees).

Woot Woot!

I kept my Laredo Altitude, and will likely give it to my daughter. She's kind of thrilled it will look almost like dad's.

Could someone answer these questions:

  • After two days of driving the Overland, it seems to ride and shift better than the Laredo. Is it my need to validate the purchase or does the Overland have a slightly better suspension and transmission?
  • The Overland came equipped with Nav, but I'm curious, how long is it active - life time or is there an annual subscription?
  • Chrome, chrome and more chrome! I'm guessing changing out the door handles is gonna be a major task and cost, but are there any easy and inexpensive options for changing the side view mirrors to white or black, and rear tail lights and grill to black? The grill is oddly the exact opposite of the Laredo Altitude - its chrome outside and the honeycombs are black. I prefer complete black.

Congrats!

You might want to get the build sheet for your new-to-you Overland and that will tell you exactly what it's equipped with. You likely have the QuadraTrac drivetrain (which includes low range)...not available on Laredo, and you may have QuadraLift. (air suspension) If your entertainment system has NAV now, it will have NAV forever. Map updates and subscriptions to things like sat traffic are on your nickle, however.

There are lots of threads in the Interior/Exterior/Visual forum area up above relative to modifications, including for things like the mirrors, handles, etc.
