After getting my new 2015 Overland home I noticed the leather dashboard was wrinkling in a couple of spots. I returned to my dealer and they took a few pictures to send to corporate. With in a week I was notified that I would be receiving a new dash.
Forward to today. Dropped off Jeep and with in a few hours I recieved a call from the service department. When the tech opened the new dash box he realized it was in worse shape than the one my Jeep came with. They are going to order another one.
Great service from my dealer but what the heck is going on with Jeep? How can they ship a new car with a bad dash? How can another bad dash get sent as a replacement?
Anyone else experience this? New to Jeep and not impressed so far.
No excuses, but leather is a natural product that is susceptible to the environment...it's likely that there is an issue with the adhesive and leather being what it is, it bubbled up because it could. Hopefully, the replacement-for-the-replacement will be to expectations!
Reminds me of back when I needed to replace the UCS shocks on one of my older Jeeps.
They had defective shocks back then but mine was outside of the build date and didn't have them. I was just replacing them because they were worn out.
Of course, the new shocks exhibited the same symptoms as the defective ones. When I checked the label on the boxes, I found the production dates were smack in the middle of the production run of defective shocks.
Leave it to Chrysler to keep the defective shocks in their parts warehouse and then sell them to a customer. I pointed that out to the dealer. They were embarrassed.
Service guy said its "normal" for leather dashes to have wrinkles?!?! He had seen it Cadillacs before too. Funny...I had looked at several 2014's that had perfect leather dashboards before ordering a 2015.
They are reordering and will check next dash before they schedule install.
Customer service is good so far. Hassle of having to bring a $50K vehicle with less than 500 miles in for replacement parts is frustrating.
I was told that my replacement dash had "more texture" because it was shipped to Australia "rolled up" and would settle down in the sun. I think that comprises a three layer bullsh!t cake, no?
This surprises me. I'm pretty particular and I don't have any complaints about my leather dash. Just this afternoon, I was sitting in a later 2014 JGC in the showroom and I thought that the leather looked even nicer.
Strange as it may seem, I am one of those folks who preferred the plastic dashboards for that reason, exactly. In the sun, the leather will eventually discolor and crack. And I hated the half wood half leather steering wheel on the Overland anyways.
My 2012 was delivered with two big bubbles just behind the dash cluster hump. Dealer spotted it during pre-delivery check and had a new dash ordered and installed in a couple of days. It looked like the adhesive was missed in two small areas and the heat had caused the bubbles to rise up.
I was a little sceptical that the dealer could do the repair but it turned out fine and I have had no further problems.
I'm having same problem on my 2011 but i have 40 000 miles on mine and dealer take pics to send to craysler nothing hapend I guess thay didn't approved the replacement on the dashboard.Dealer told me it costs 2-3 thousand to replace.Dont know what to doo.
Update: New leather dash is in!!! 3rd one was the charm. This one is perfect. The leather texture looks slightly different than the original but no wrinkles.
It took my dealer almost a week to get it installed but they did a great job. No indication of scratches or rattles.
Not happy I had to go through this but happy with the customer service Jeep provided.
Glad it's good. I know how frustrating that is. That's why when the dealer tried to sell me a more expensive Jeep I laughed at them. I told them the more crap I get the more there is to go wrong. He thought I was crazy but it seems that my theory is true.
Took my 2014 Overland in yesterday for several issues (driver window does not retain auto up feature even after resetting switch, transmission shifting issue, misalignment of rear hatch and dash wrinkles behind steering wheel) my last update was that it is at the body shop. Hopefully they get the right replacement dash the first time. Scratching my head as to how the rear hatch can be misaligned. Noticeable around rear lights.
GREAT NEWS! FCA has finally decided to quit denying that fact that the adhesive in their leather dashes in the ‘11-‘14 JGC have failed and it’s not age/sun/mistreatment or other previous excuses to get out of replacement for this very expensive part. Finally! Thanks to FCA for doing the right thing, even if it took years. Sorry if you already came out of pocket for this fix. That sucks and maybe if you contact Jeep they could help you out. If you’ve been waiting then I’d stay on the lookout for this letter, or simply reach out to them to get the process going.
Yup! Just received the extended warranty letter. My dash is in great condition, probably due to me using a windshield shade when parked outside and, possibly, regular use of 303 Protectant.

That happened to me as well back in October. Dealer had mine for a month waiting for second replacement dash. The must be shipping around the same defective replacement dash.

I was just told that the new dash would cost me $1500 to replace. Not happy. I bought this from Firkins in Bradenton and he basically said I was out of luck as far as the warranty goes. I am going car shopping but I must say it probably won't be for a jeep..I can't keep this 2015 if it is only going to get worse.
