Overland if you don't like to tinker.

The Altitude may give you more freedom to mod.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

The Overland and Altitude not close at all. The Overland has so many features compared to the Altitude its to long to list...

For me when i was in the market a yr ago, the Altitude is what drew me to jeep. After further researching the Altitude did not have the options i wanted (that were a must) so that was a deal breaker. Yes it looks awesome but it lacks a lot of options and that's because its a base laredo.

I wanted a Hemi so once i did my homework on the overland realized all the options that i cared about are standard compared to any other models. Also i love the ambient lighting the Overland's have at night time. haha.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

That's a good thought on just changing out the emblems if I want, I've done that kind of thing in the past. I was actually thinking with the Altitude, I could add an HID kit, and that takes care of one thing the Overland has over it. But the Overland features are above and beyond, so it would be easier to make it Altitudish rather than the other other way. I don't want to tinker other than the very superficial easy mods, and only a few of those.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

I had a similar decision to make recently.

Power tilt, memory seats, those were not a big deal breaker one way or the other for me. It came down to:

Overland
V-8
Ventilated seats
HID headlights
Better 4wd system
Air suspension

Altitude
blacked out appearance
save $$$
dark interior with silver trim (hate the bronze/gold)

I was almost going to go Overland, but the air suspension and cost of the black trim pieces pushed me to the Altitude. I also based it on resale. Altitudes might not sell for a premium on the used market, but the 12-13 Altitudes that get listed sell a lot quicker than equivalent Laredo/Limited GCs...

Why not an optioned out Limited! You almost get everything the Overland offers with none of the limitations of an Altitude and a more reasonable cost

Good thought, can't find one unless it's optioned all the way to an Overland price. A basic Limited with Lux II would be kinda perfect, I found one locally, ONE, and it's black, not my preference, and at a dealer I don't like so much.

Anyway, talked some more final numbers with the dealer I've gone to before, and tomorrow I should be getting a Billet Silver Overland with a $4500 off MSRP discount, 9.5% below MSRP, $2684 or almost 6% below invoice.

Not it exactly, but...

A Limited with Lux II starts to get very close in price to an Overland base.
Sounds like you got a great deal.
Congrats.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

A week later than expected, but....

The Overland, my final numbers below, with incentives and all, but excluding trade etc. just to keep it as straight up as possible for you guys. The trade is another story and basically I just didn't do as well there as I thought I could, perhaps just the reality of the market, Edmunds and KBB be damned.

As for the Overland, not quite the deal I thought before incentives and so on, but ultimately where I thought I would be. I did pay first month plates fees etc. which was an arguable point with the dealer last night and I got about the equivalent off in the end, but it was just an unappealing process, as always.

It is too much for me when a lot of things start costing several hundred here, several hundred there, and it throws off your numbers. I'm sure this is by design and by exploiting existing state fees and the nature of financing, and manipulatable charges like the destination charge, this and this fee, that tax, your payment, all these things in the $500-1000 range that confuse the numbers.

With the trade figured in, the contract numbers were just confusing to me and they weren't explaining it to my satisfaction. I really almost walked but I know I would have ended up in the same situation tomorrow with a different dealer. They did their "magic" at the end so I ended where I originally thought was a good price, all things considered.

MSRP inc dest $47190
Cap cost $45836 (per contract, a number I really didn't like the look of)
Net cost $42431 (w/ incentives and w/o trade or any of my money in yet, so not a number that appears on a contract anywhere)

The actual discount on the contract includes part of my trade, as first payment, and the incentives, and further dealer discount, and with a missing $60 somewhere which the dealer claimed they were eating that $60 because they got such and such wrong, so I'm not even going to get into that number as I can't properly explain it to myself let alone you guys.

Anyway, if I'm looking at everything correctly, I am paying $42431 before tax on a $47190 vehicle, that is 10.1% off MSRP - including incentives, I thought I would be there before incentives, but well, there are no pleasant surprises when buying a car.

And the contract net cost was bit lower after paying first month plate etc. and not rolling that into the cost, but really I paid that, so it doesn't really reduce my cost, does it? It's my money. That is where I was really stuck arguing with the dealer. Best of luck to everybody else.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

I chose the altitude. My choice was between a SRT and a altitude. The fact that I could buy 2 altitudes for the price of one SRT sealed the deal as much as I wanted to spring for the SRT I couldnt justify it. good luck with the new jeep once you decide!

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

The only major advantage of the overland is the air ride. If you plan on doing some off roading etc that might be a game changer for you. If you don't need that I would just with the altitude to save a few bucks.

The major difference is you can get the Lux package with Overland.
As well as Technology Package and any engine you want.
I think Overland includes just about every option you have to add to an Altitude as well.

Saying the only difference is the Quadra Lift is ridiculous.
It doesn't even have the same 4WD system.

Completely different level of luxury.

The Altitude is basically a Laredo with a unique color scheme.

A Limited is close to an Overland once all optioned up.

I'm not sure why anyone would have a tough time deciding between an Altitude and an Overland if both are in your budget.
