Question 2015 Overland or Altitude?

I know nobody can make the choice for me, what's right for me is right for me. But I'm looking for opinions, what would you choose, why, and so on. And maybe even just expressing my thoughts here will help me make up my own mind.

So I'm torn right now, the Overland is more expensive, the Altitude seems a bit more unique. There's a few features on the Overland I'd appreciate, but I've been driving a base Laredo so even the Altitude offer several upgrades and style points. I think I've got to go cheaper, cause that's never a bad decision.

I've already been negotiating a bit online for an Overland, and I thought the internet was making it easier to start, but that showroom feeling has crept in anyway and I'm feeling disenchanted with the whole car buying process. I want a Grand Cherokee and I'll be happy with either model sitting in my garage. But getting there feels like work and worry. That's why I'm just looking for a little conversation from people in the know, to help me think about the models and not so much the process.

I'm probably making the decision tomorrow, so I don't know who can even post feedback here by then. If I am hearing better deals over email, I might as well go in at this point. But I can update this thread, reveal my choice, so maybe it helps someone else later. Also, Billet Silver or Granite Crystal?

I'm already leaning towards Billet Silver Altitude now, so thanks for reading and letting me vent. But still up in the air and opinions/perspectives welcome.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

The whole process sucks. Between the altitude and overland, like you said, you know what'll work out best for you. See what options and features you like about the overland and see if it's worth the extra cash. If not I'm sure you'll be happy in an altitude. I have a 14 limited in black. I really like the white altitudes and would probably get that if I was buying again. My second choice would be billet silver though. Good luck with whatever you choose and don't let the idiots at the store stress you out.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

Bought Both a limited 2014 (ordered) and Overland 2015 were completely stress free, two different dealers.
Both around 4% below invoice. Never even haggled. I just use cars.com to find them and that was the price I paid.
Bought last 3 cars that way.

I'd get an overland in a heartbeat again.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

There are a ton of black models out there, which look good, but waaay too blacked out on the Altitude. In fact I thought at first it was a model the dealer had customized. On the other end of the spectrum, I don't like white, but the Altitude package makes white look good, however being more of a boring silver/gray person I have to stick with those. I like the True Blue, but those are few and I don't like the stark red tail lights against a blue body.

I was looking at TrueCar, but I'm already being quoted deals $1000 better than TrueCar suggests. One online communication has been pretty much haggle free so far, about 4% below invoice right now so ultimately I don't think I'll be getting a bad deal once I'm done.

The second communication is a dealer I have dealt with on previous cars, unfortunately standard salesman "monthly" approach to start. But also he said they'd match or beat anything. And knowing the dealership, I know it's true (or believe it anyway - once they realize you're serious they get serious, maybe I just wish he remembered I deal that way).

My issue really seems to be, the Altitude and the Overland are so close in features, I'm just trying to choose between shiny or blacked out, shiny or blacked out. I can't imagine regretting the Overland, but the Altitude has the luxuries most appreciated. Shiny or blacked out?

altitude and overland are not close in features but price can get close.

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

What a decision to be made. In fact, it seems like a big gap that you are looking at. If you are ever so concerned about price then you probably would want to stick with the Altitude. However, if the difference in price (payment) is not that dramatic then the Overland would be a wonderful vehicle to own.

I was like you when searching for my JGC. I came from a Columbia Edition 2004 Liberty and then a 2010 Honda CRV EX-L. Both verhicles had nice options but the Altitude still had much more options than what I was used to driving with. The Overland blew my mind with the options but the price was also out of my comfort zone. Hence, I went with the Black on Black Altitude and have loved it since day 1 (now 1 year old).

Good luck with your decision. Don't let the hassle of negotiation deter what you really want. Go in with clear numbers in your head and be honest and open up front with the sales people. If they seem irritated then go to another person or dealer.

By the way, here is a picture of my Altitude :0

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

If the Altitude offers you the features you want/need and it's limitations are not an issue for you, it's a nice machine for the money. But if the Altitude's limitations (drive train, tech, etc.) will cause you angst or buyer's remorse, go for a Limited or Overland.

And consider the DC group buy to keep the cost down if you're not getting anywhere locally. A net of about 6% under invoice less any available promotions is a nice deal...

Re: 2015 Overland or Altitude?

Overland IMO. I will say the Altitude looks damn good, but in the end its just a Laredo and lacks a LOT of features and options. Whats cool about the Overland is that its overall setup just like the Altitude as far as the side molding and front bumper and stuff. So if you like all the Overland options, but like the Altitude look, then you can easily purchase all the gloss black emblems, grills, wheels, and a couple other misc items and you have the best of both worlds.
Either way though the Overland has SOOOOOO much more to offer than a Laredo, so do it right the first time! With all that said though, they are both great cars!
I LOVE my recently purchased new '14 Summit V8. Cant get enough of it.
