2015 Summit skid plates now an option

Was on the jeep website today and building a 2015 Summit and noticed that skid plates are an available factory option now for $295, probably enough complaints they gave in. $295 is a good price, more than $100 less than the part cost only to buy. Now all they need is to add tow hooks as an option but i doubt we see that as it would require a redesign of that lower grille piece.

Maybe there will be some change to the grill for the MY16. This is getting to be 'almost' as much fun as the buildup to the MY14

I think it would be a good idea, at least gives people the option. Mounting points are all there and ready its just a bolt on, all they need to do is redesign that lower plastic grille piece. Really not that hard they could just design in removable plastic popout covers so the people that want hooks can have them and the people that want to keep the look without them still can. Probably not hard to do at all if they were motivated enough.

Yes im curious to see what the MY16 changes are also. I saw michillan just released a "Priemer LTX" tire in the 265/50R20 size its not an off road tire and not as good as the MS/2 but looks like will be a good all season tire probably better in the elements than latitude. Maybe they will drop the Forteras for that one for MY16 keep your fingers crossed anything would be an improvement.

Even if they went with something that others use. A pop out that lets you screw in a temporary recovery hook.

I had that on an Acura and Ford.

Of course, right about when I'm ready to pick up my custom ordered Summit they add skid plates as a cheap option... Damn you FCA lol.

So I take it nobody has taken a chance on ordering this part for the Summits. I would have taken the risk if I hadn't decided to wait and see what's up with MY16 and the small refresh.

When i fitted tow hooks onto my summit last summer i ordered a center lower grille to have one on hand incase i messed up my existing when making the cuts for the hooks. Anyway i went though trying to figure out why there were two lower grilles listed and if i remember right the one with the part number that states tow hooks on summit was for an export model, i dont know which one. It included one little door on the right side for a small tow eyelet. I think at the time why i decided not to pursue the one eyelet solution was because the mounting points were not there on the domestic body for it. It was easier and you got two more robust hooks just to cut two liittle holes in the existing lower grille and install the domestic two hooks on the existing body mounting points then it was to try and figure a mounting solution for the eyelet. Or maybe it was the one little eyelet just didnt look like it would hold up very well, hard to remember at this point.

Tire wise. I bought a set of Latitude Tour HP few months ago and I notice it is already an improvement than the Fortera. I noticed there is less body roll on turning and especially on roundabouts. However, usually Michelin tires are much softer on ride which isn't in this case. It could be something to do with the size of the tires, but I do get a softer ride on the 18' X-ICE for the winter.

I have that piece with exact parts number on it when I install my took hook just in case the piece was messed up during the cutting process.

True, I should have waited for the LTX. Here is another question I have, if I want to go off-road this summer, should I keep the tour HP or put on X-ICE I use for winter? I know it's ideal to get a set of proper off-road tires, what are the cheapest option? I look at BFG all-terrain and they are running $900/set.
