If you do a lot of off roading...the skid plates are great...if not why bother...

Based on what Milous has reported, the Ivory color is delayed even further for ordering (3/21) than the brown (3/10)... probably best you went with white if you were in a hurry or not overly concerned with color...my local dealer has a white overland in stock; I wasn't keen on white but actually, in person, it looks rather nice.

Probably not going to be going in the extreme wilderness offroading or join any clubs with my Summit, but heck, some of our local roads are so filled with potholes large and small, it seems like we are offroading (and it isn't even Spring yet!).... just wondering if it is worth it for protection from everyday use on unpaved or very poor roads or simply a pain in the butt when service is required and simply add to the weight of an already heavy vehicle...

$295 is a good price on the skid plates, adding them after words will cost you at least $450 and that's if you do it yourself. I have seen dealer prices of $700-800 for them to add them so $295 from factory for all 5 plates is good.

It certainly is not a must have for a vehicle that will be on the road most of the time but it cant hurt. Really the most vulnerable part for mostly on road are the gas tanks. Slide under there and look at those two big plastic gas tanks hanging there it will make you think twice. There is a thread floating around on here somewhere of a guy whos wife did just that she ran over some road debris in 2014 or 15 GC and sliced one of those plastic tanks open dumping gas all over. I added all 5 plates to mine and total weight for all 5 of them is 117lbs a little extra weight but nothing crazy. so not a requirement but a nice to have and for $295 I would grab them. I had to add them later because they were not an option on summit in 2014, fortunately they changed that and they are now.

3/21 is the current production start date for Ivory.
4/16 is the current production start date for Luxury Brown

Normally, order banks open the month prior, for some reason Ivory has not opened yet.

Based on what you are saying, skid plates are a coin toss for your style of driving. If you would feel better having the extra protection, then, order them. The price is certainly reasonable. Adding them later will cost you double. If you decide not to get them, you will be saving 117 pounds and probably will never need that level of protection. You can't go wrong either way.

Yes, for the price and the relatively small weight addition, it would give peace of mind for the everyday crap that just seems to happen....

yes, that is what I was thinking... I think I will order them... better safe than sorry scenario... if it won't help, it won't hurt... unless they are a bother for regular servicing of the vehicle...

This is part of the reason I wanted the off road package - even the local roads around here, I've had a few times where I've had debris on the road bang into the plates. Rather it hit the plate than something expensive!

From Post #1...

• Nappa leather-faced with perforated inserts — Black with Copper accent stitching (Black piping on Overland) - Standard on Overland; Available on Limited

Well, I just looked at a 2016 Overland and it still has the white accent stitching on the black interior... same as my 2014.

Has there been confirmation that the black forest green will make a comeback as soon as the 75th anniversary greens have gone?

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Does anyone know if Jeep fixed the obnoxiously loud radio buttons behind the steering wheel? Did they put quieter ones in the 16s?
