Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I found it interesting that it says the Summit comes standard with the ORA II package (except for tires) including skid plates, but tow package is optional.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Some info about the Pentastar upgrade is out:

Chrysler Reveals Major Revisions to Pentastar V-6 – News – Car and Driver | Car and Driver Blog

Some highlights-
Increased range of valve timing
NO direct injection
5 more HP (total 295)
Better low end torque (no actual hard numbers, but looks like around 15% better under 3000RPM)
Auto stop/start

IMO, I'm most interested in the better low end torque. I find the V-6 to be sufficient most of the time, but it's annoyingly gutless at low RPM (but then, I also have a 2011 with that 5 speed Mercedes box, and that doesn't help). I'm eager to see how these upgrades translate to better low end acceleration and maybe even better economy numbers. I've personally found the V-6 doesn't save so much fuel over the Hemi that it's that much more attractive (but then, it's not like the Hemi is all that fast, either). Hopefully these changes will increase the utility of the base engine... I expect I'll be in the market to replace my GC in a year and a half to two years, and I wouldn't mind getting another.
