Not a fan of leather wrapped myself. Would prefer current shifter with various positions rather then momentary action it has now.
well my friend went to a dealership today to pick up some parts for his durango and he seen one of the new 2016 jeep gc's sitting in a bay with the mystery car fabric all over it and asked if he could see inside and he confirmed to me that this is in fact the shifter that was in the test gc and he also confirmed that it came with the electronic E-Brake and is located just behind the shifter lever and he said that it didn't feel loose in any way so lets see if jeep keeps it and puts it on the production models

I prefer it leather wrapped. Looks hella better. But the top of that shifter looks goofy. Oh well, the current one looks just as goofy lol

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

yea it does look goofy but it is better than the old one that returned back to center cause even in the 3 test drives i did of the summits i tried nonchalantly shifting to certain gears and i found it to be a bit difficult at times and i actually had to look at the shifter to know what gear i was in

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

LOL I hope that's not it... it looks huge.. but I do like the familiarity piece (if that's the shifter), I like the knob in my 15' Chrysler 200. I wouldn't mind seeing Jeep utilize the rotary knob..

Oh please no! I actually like the shifter in my 14. I'm used to it and no longer have to look. I REALLY dislike the dial-a-shift knob.

I'd hate to be a designer, you really can't please everyone. :-)

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

How is it possible for someone to have seen a 2016 if production is not scheduled to start until late December?

well because all car companies produce a very small number of said vehicles so they can send them out on the roads and see how they drive and handle and if everything works then use all that info in making the real thing im guessing they ran into a issue and they are trying to figure it out and that could be why they bumped the dates back so far but i cant say for sure.

here are some examples of the test cars you might see on the roads some even have large amounts of cloth over them

Yeah, no knob shifter. That is ugly and I couldn't imagine it fitting in the GCs console

In addition to coolchef's comments, they also produce Pilots that are used for testing manufacturing as well as pre-production road testing. It would take a very keen eye to pick them out, especially with little or no physical differences externally.

That said, it's a weird thing for me that something like that would be in the hands of a dealer...
