Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

In Post #5 of Milous High Altitude announcement thread down in the regular forum area, he references HA for 2016. That's about the only "confirmation" I've seen so far, but I suspect they will not pull HA so soon after its initial release as a MY15 option. Stranger things have happened, however...

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Time to go test drive a Mercedes GLE, and GLC comes out in Nov. At least those tell you that they have active lane keeping and active blind spot keeping instead of just focusing on colors. The GLC is similar in price to the GC but it might be too tight with their wide-ass center console in a Cherokee-sized area. The GLE is the same platform as the GC but pricier.

I want my 2015 GC to have the Lane Departure Warning that my 2014 Cherokee had, and that the Dealer incorrectly said that it had, and that Edmunds "Expert Review" incorrectly says it has.

My '14 Summit owners manual describes LDW which of course nobody has.

MY16 JGC has not yet been launched...you will not see anything about it until after the official sales launch. Until then, they are still selling MY15 JGC. 'Nature of the beast...

After further research, the Mercedes has an inferior Active Lane Keeping system compared to the Cherokee. They brake the opposite side of the car to force it back to the lane, while the Cherokee actively handles the steering. My '14 Cherokee just kept itself in the lane, around fast curves, through narrow construction lanes, I don't want it to have to brake in the middle of traffic and slow down, or even just have my brake lights flashing on and off on the highway. If the GC doesn't get Active Lane Keeping soon I might go back down to a Cherokee, maybe a '16 Trailhawk.
Another silly point, the Mercedes GLC won't even have the Off-road Engineering Package option in the U.S., which means no Snow mode available either. They might as well all carry bumper stickers that say, "I should have bought a Cherokee."

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I guess LDW just isn't that important to me. I've driven cars with it before and absolutely could not stand the feature. Maybe you're prone to falling asleep at the wheel or something, but this is one feature I find obnoxious. The GC already has the features that matter, like FCW and blind spot. Those are actually useful..

You might feel differently about it if you drove through Chicago area construction zones 40 miles long with traffic going 80 mph, artificially narrow temporary lanes for years at a time, gutter lanes with drainage grates like pot holes hitting your tires while you are already at an angle, and concrete bridge pillars passing inches from your side, while going around curves, next to semis taking more than their lanes.
