we won't know that for awhile I assume...

but my point was that you would be buying a newer model year vehicle that would not be overtaken by the next model year for one year VS six months...

so, it would hold it's value longer...

VS

ordering a 2017 model produced in July 2016, delivered say 8 to 12 weeks later (say September-Oct 2016)?

assuming a 6 month difference between the two?
If you can wait, go for the '17. Gives Chrysler 6 months to tweak the build - I don't expect much of a change for '17. Tweak in that they are introducing the PUG upgrade and electric steering.

That is what I was thinking of doing (waiting and order a 2017 model this coming Summer )... the engine upgrade doesn't bother me since I wish to order a diesel (Overland or Summit).... but yes, they would be able to tweak any issues with the electric steering or others...

and I wouldn't have the 2016 in time for our winter here in Ontario anyway since most likely it would not be delivered until Spring (and I assume local dealers won't have any 2016's until Spring either, given the late production schedule for this particular model year...

(I will be trading in my 2012 vw golf wagon diesel (yes, it is one of those now famous (infamous) ones... not because of the present scandal but because I was normally due to trade it in at this time (i.e., 4 years old; over warranty and not good in winter driving for our harsh winters )...

... but kind of bad timing all around for me... with the short production year of the 2016 GC and the diesel nonsense of vw ...lol....

yes, at least in ontario they are (although value has dropped, more public perception of a 'dirty' diesel than real world issue once the recall/fix is in place) ...there is no safety issue with them... strictly an emissions issue and once the recall is in place (seems like something will be in place in the new year), then there won't be any issue after that with respect to the car...

there have been some people say it may lose some fuel economy or power, but nobody really knows for sure until the correction is in place on the vehicle...

but I do like the diesel engine and will continue with the diesel vehicles until something better comes along mainstream (fuel cell??)....

I previously owned the GC with the mercedes diesel 2008... loved that engine... and then because jeep broke up with Daimler, there was no diesel for awhile, so I bought the Mercedes ML 350 with the same engine as the GC had, then sold that and bought the VW diesel.... now, I am looking to get back into the GC with another diesel....

Waiting for the 2017 may make more sense considering the VW deal as well. With all the pending lawsuits against them, I'm sure (or would think) owners/you will get some kind of compensation to make up for loss in value. Or maybe VW will offer to buy back the cars above market value, which may push up your timeframe!

Yes, I was thinking along similar lines... there has been some talk of this type of compensation in the news and that would be great but I will keep my expectations low for now and if it happens... great...if not, I still am due for a vehicle upgrade and will still trade it even if not compensated... just bad timing for me that this all came about at the very time I was due for a new vehicle..

My brother works for Chrysler so I do get an employee discount and more than likely I will order a 2017 this Summer unless there is some great discount/deal on the new 2016's... since I just spent $750 on the 60,000km checkup and put another $1200 on new all season tires on the VW to cope with winter driving this winter....

i wonder if when the order banks open up if that is when they will be doing adverts for the 2016 since you would technically have access to the info by then

No, they don't start the model year advertising until the sale's kickoff. Initial orders generally start before that and most of that is dealer orders for inventory at their normal run-rate.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Originally, when production was scheduled to start November 30, WK2 showed (and still shows) this.

"Sales/Press launch - September 1, 2015"

That would have been 3 months ahead of production. Maybe now they aren't going to have the typical launch with all the fanfare.

The mystery of Jeep.
