Vrooom,

I like your post but disagree with one point. I know things have changed some over the years, but those of us that have been around the block a few times expect our new American vehicles to be in the showroom by the second week in September. That 'was' a long standing tradition that the car companies could live up to ... before they had computers to help with scheduling.

Yes, as well as seeing pretty significant changes from one model year to the next. Made it even more exciting.

If they still did that today, imagine all the procrastination and hand wringing? Damn, should I buy a 16 or wait for the 17?

Oh wait... they already do!

Agree and now we get MY2014s released in January of 2013 and MY2016s released in January of 2016. The MY year date is becoming meaningless

so the problem is....our expectations....or....their failure to meet our expectations (after having suggested timelines that lead us to said expectations.)

Whew! gets complicated chasing that cause and effect paradigm.

i think better transparency and more forthright communications would help us manage our expectations more responsibly and help us to avoid our tantrums when we dont get that with which we have become accustomed and now feel entitled.

The problem with doing something nice (like launching a year model before the actual year) is that it soon becomes expected...and less appreciated. Im (barely) old enough to remember when the early launch as a big deal and folks were mad about manufacturers jumping the gun in an effort to try to get out ahead of the competition.

At some point it goes from meaningful delineation to pointless marketing BS. "Mines better because my volume goes up to 11..."

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Ya know...It occurs to me that this thread is titled:
"2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes"

Rather than focusing on the timeline (waiting room), perhaps we would be better off looking at the FEATURES.

I'd like to think that the good folks at Jeep have included a previously unadvertised "Easter Egg Feature" in the 2016. It wont be on the buold sheet or on the window sticker. BUt I think that the 2016 comes with this:

Tedious intro (I know)...but the strangely applicable lyrics begin at 0:50.

LOL

Ohh...Ohhh...Ohhh....

and maybe the designers have planted another "easter egg" so that when the delivery date actually arrives and the new owner slides into the seat to guide their baby off the lot...

Maybe this song is pre-loaded to play as they drive off:

Again...pay attention to the lyrics. hahahahah (forgive the musical interludes if this aint your thing)

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

No MY16 vehicles have been produced yet other than possibly some pilots which is typical pre-production activity. So it's unlikely what your friend saw is anything other than a MY15.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Maybe since the '15s were supposed to be done by now, and there are no reported major body changes to the '16s, they are using some '16 trim pieces since they were already produced. They could have run out of parts for the 15.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I just wish someone would take a picture of these suspected 2016s.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

They will grab some 2015's off the line, put in those orange / copper seats and put the 75th year badges on them, call those the 2016's and start the 2017's in June.
