Correct me if I'm wrong.
You are correct, I hate the leather boot. The previous shifters in my SIX GC's were all just fine...without leather boots. The 2011 is probably preferred but I have grown accustomed to the 2014, none of these needed the ugly leather boot. The leather boot is a remnant of the past, looks tacky, etc.

Hopefully Milous' post of "Leather-wrapped shifter is Standard on all 2016 models." means the shifter knob itself and NOT the boot (that is no boot around the shifter shaft at all).

That thing is going to feel like a shifter on an arcade driving game...if not attached to a mechanical linkage you are better off with an Eshifter IMO...I think the shape of it looks dated as well, but then again I thought the 2014 redesign shifter was ahead of its time and unJeepish but now I love it.

I know, that's why I say if no connection, there's no point to positive positions as promised. A tap in the direction of gear of an EShifter just seems more appropriate than a make believe set of stops. Again, this is my opinion, I'm sure it will fit in nicely and be a hit with most who didn't mesh with the current shifter...no need to be offended!

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I'd bet there are a lot of cars on the road with electric shifters, and have been for quite some time. Chrysler in an effort to look like it was more advanced, decided to make people learn how to drive all over again.

Very few people like change for the sake of change. If Chrysler could have shown any advantage to the user, the new design for '14 might have been better accepted. But there was no advantage except to be able to say, look at my new whiz bang gadget, that accomplishes the same thing as the old gadget.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

All this for a shifter that looks normal, like every other vehicle has lmao

It looks less hideous than the current one. (Even though I have gotten use to it)

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Was at the dealership today for oil change and tire rotation, so I took some photos of new Jeep Dodge Chrysler "shifters". The most probable design direction may be the Jeep Renegade (first photo) since it is a recent design. Still hate the leather boot thing on the Renegade and the Charger. I'll live though as I'm not intending on buying a new GC for at least a year and a half...by then hope it changes....

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

The whole shifter on the renegade is just shaped ugly. The wrangler has a cheap old looking shifter.
