2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

The new shifter, leather boot included, looks like the one in the new Volvo XC90 and that just won the 2016 MotorTrend SUV of the Year award. I like the updated one, but I never had an issue with the current one either.

Well the website now shows 2016 Renegade. The Grand Cherokee is the only vehicle that only shows 2015.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I am not a fan of the current shifter at all. Numerous times it has found neutral, shifting to drive and/or reverse. Without feeling it engaging the only way to tell is look down at the indicator that's not really that prominent on the dash. It downright sucks for quick changes in direction. Of course that surely could be my shortcoming and not the shifter...maybe, um NOT. I think aesthetically the console shifter gives off a sporty look and lends a somewhat higher driving appeal. However it isn't a Hurst 4 speed. I am programmed to have a hand on it and do indeed use it to downshift to sport mode regularly and don't have to think about it...it's reflexive. I like that part. As others have mentioned it's really just a switch though. And as far as parsimony and efficiency of space goes, I'd prefer a stalk and one with detents. Maybe not as natural but one could easily become accustomed to it. A button on the end or top for sport mode would definitely beat the dash or nav unit location. The cup holders could be slightly larger and the console and center stack storage could be configured with much, much more space and usefulness.

You can see some here from the SRT Night at the LA Auto show.

Instrument Custer is different on the SRT now though. And you can also see that there is no e-brake.

Is it different from what the 16 cluster look like on the other models? From that pic it seems they did away with the square screen and changed the shape, eliminating the top left "info panel"

Looks like 2016 SRT is on Jeep's website. No other GC trims in 2016 yet though.

Hmmm. I can see a foot operated park brake in the footwell. So no electronic park brake????
