Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I love the Sienna brown interior myself but the light color head liner above is definitely a no no for me . It's just waiting for stains to go on it . I test drove a 2015 with it and still prefer the Full Brown with the Dark Brown head liner . No stains no worries . It should of been an option to get the black head liner with the Sienna brown . It's a shame . I'm also loving the new stick and manual shift option on this . Might have to trade my 14 Summit for the 2016 . We shall see .

I thought sport mode was moved back to the dial? Also what is the A with the circle around it next to the Eco button? Is it auto start stop on the EcoDiesel?

Unfortunately, the HA only comes with a black interior. No other options. If you want the "tan" (AKA dark sienna brown/black or "saddle/black") interior, you will need to buy the Summit.

I know, but if I had any say, it would be an option... Love the high altitude but not a fan of black interior

Looks aside, I'm more curious as to "feel" of the new fully electric power steering. Electric PS systems can be done well, but they're pretty easy to do badly, at present.

I like mine. It's not a sports car feel for sure, but not light either. Question though, I just drove a friend of mines Summit with a V-8. It seemed much heavier. Required maybe twice as much effort. Has anyone driven both the V-6 and V-8 and noticed the same? Wondering if it is the difference in weight over the front wheels or a programming difference. I personally wouldn't like the extra effort. My old tennis elbows would be screaming.

One more thing... I understand these are belt driven. What happens if one fails? There is no back up, so I guess no steering??? I had a timing belt break on a Celica GTS crashing 16 valves into pistons. I'm very leery of belts LOL!

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

^^My 14 Overland Hemi was noticeably harder to turn compared to my 15 Overland Pentastar. The 16 will be interesting to see what it feels like.

I'm very curious as to what the Hemi improvements are.

On the 14, your 3.6L has an electrically assisted, hydraulic power steering system. If the electric assist fails (or the belt on a belt driven hydraulic system) you still have steering, you just lose the power assist.

Actually, it's the following:

2011-2015 3.6 - hydraulic power assist, electrically driven pump (rather than by engine belt). (early 2011 3.6s had a belt-driven pump).

2014-2015 EcoDiesel -- same as 3.6 above.

2011-2015 5.7 - conventional hydraulic assist with belt-driven pump

2016 (all) - Fully electric power steering (no hydraulics at all).

With electric power steering you will still have steering in the event of a power failure as with conventional hydraulic systems. It isn't steer-by-wire. Just a different method of assist.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Thanks Peter.

So this electric pump is just in place of being driven as an accessory of the motor, off crank, right?
