We were also impressed at the seamlessness and reaction time of the ESS.'
Thats nice they gave the new v6 accolades but a 5 hp bump and 0-60 went to 8.6 seconds? What happened there? Lets hope other reviews dont yield it increasing an entire second on the 0-60 for a modest 6% fuel economy bump. I had hopes they were going to get significantly better fuel economy numbers out of it with out a performance hit. Cross your fingers other reviews will show better.

No worries - first second was for the ESS to light up.

And...the winner was nearly twice the price of the Limited they tested. It's interesting that it got dinged for "luxury" when it's two trim levels below the "luxury" level that Summit provides or a decked-out Overland just below, and still at a better price than the top-rated LR.

With all the headaches and constant engine light issues we've been experiencing with our 2012 Pentastar based edition, we'd skip the updated v6 fanfare and opt for the tried and true torque pulling diesel monster! There's no comparison to the acceleration and overall ride experience every time we've tested an Overland with this amazing engine!

My thoughts exactly. I don't understand this. That's when I decided to forget all about their review.. It's bogus.

Wait, what?? The Diesel isn't tried and true. The Hemi is.

Hemi's definitely tried and true agreed, but for the occasional trails, amazing torque and gas savings, I'd place the diesel high in the list for our next purchase I wouldn't invest in the Pentastar, it has not been good to us the last 3 years to say the least as much as we love everything else about the latest GC incarnation. I wouldn't recommend this engine to our worst enemy.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I think the "not tried and true" referred to fact that the current diesel is a relatively new engine, at least in CDJR applications..

2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Well the Pentastar from our experience is the furthest from tried and true. At least Jeep came through in the end after months of recurring engine related issues with full warranty coverage including cylinder replacements, new catalytic converter, sensor updates and other recalls we've been sadly qualified for. We're huge fans of the Ecodiesel, and look forward to ridding ourselves once and for all of this horrendous stop and go Pentastar. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone considering a GC with this engine, hopefully the new and improved will satisfy, but with the risks based on our experience we would never consider this engine again as a reliable match for this vehicle.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I have no issues with my 15 Pentastar... Sorry for your troubles but it's not everyone of them. I know of several issues with the EcoDiesel as well.

Thank you! Yes the 2015s have had better results. Our 2012 being part of the original Mercedes based incarnation has had documented issues with this engine that's only come out in the last year or so. I'm sure everything's been resolved for the most part, we're very biased based on our own experiences and having been without a loaner the last month or so with a 7 year old to take to school was not helping our situation. We felt a need to share our experience here in the forum so that others would be aware and watchful of any engine light/shaking/acceleration hesitation issues arising from the dark side again.
