Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

The 2016 shifter is really nice. Works and feels like any of the old mechanically linked shifters. Missing gears in an emergency situation or failure to find Park shouldn't be a problem for anyone.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

I just don't like that they moved the sport mode. But I would like the manual gear selection on the shifter, flappy paddles are rubbish.

I think the OP was looking at a limited.... It will be interesting if they can't sell any of the 75th anni cars due to this recall.

It depends on their manufacture date. The S28 shifter recall affects a limited number of early build 2016's... 32,000 built between May 15, 2015 and February 19, 2016.

If any of those show up in Oz then I guess it depends on whether your laws allow them to be sold without having the recall repair made. In the US dealers are supposed to have all safety recalls performed before they can sell the vehicle.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

Yeah, S28 isn't up on our govt recall site, but maybe it is FCA Australia policy to do it. Still I'm sceptical this car is a 2016, or if it is, they are using the excuse to delay the customer because they haven't actually got it in the country yet.

edit: It normally takes about 4 months for a GC to get through the factory and delivered here.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

I'd like to think they wouldn't drag their feet on getting the S28 done down there. If that wire crimp lets go or shorts that wouldn't be a good thing having the trans slam into park if you're moving. Of course, that depends on how fast they get the parts to do it... they're replacing the entire shifter assembly.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

Comes down to parts though, and FCA Australia is notorious for lack of parts....

Anyway, looking at the dates and the fact it takes about 4 months for the car to get here, ours should be clear of the recall. But still not sure what the dealer told the OP is accurate or BS.....

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

I guess it would be a good idea for anyone looking at a 2016 in Oz to check the build date on the door jamb.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

Anyway, for the OP, I don't think the reliability of the GC is any worse than most other brands. The 2016 model is basically the same as the 2014/15 models, which have been here since mid 2013. The main difference is they have changed the shifter, which has this wiring problem. Otherwise, the GC has been well proven here, the diesel has been reliable, there were some dpf issues, but they have been fixed since late 2014. You can still get electronic issues pop up, and a failed sensor here and there, but overall they are good, IMO.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

Still think we will never see my16 in oz other than 75th Annv versions.

Note our original poster has still not disclosed if they are in oz or not.

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

Re: 2016 Grand Cherokee reliability

I think the OP was trolling and I agree with G in that the '16 will only be seen in the 75th Anniversary and the SRT Night.
