Check the Uconnect settings to make sure it is set to "Auto" for the dimming feature.

However there is one other place to look that took me a while to figure out. There is a roller type wheel to the left of the steering wheel. It controls the brightness of your dash as well as can turn on the interior lighting. There is a trick to it though.

Position 1: The wheel is turned all the way up and the interior lights are on.

Position 2: Roll the wheel back and youll feel a slight click. The interior lights will turn off but it keeps your dash board and Uconnect at max brightness. Regardless of the settings, this will override it and always be at max brightness.

Position3: Roll it back one more click. This will keep your dashboard at the same brightness during the day but instantly dim when it the headlights come on.

I dont know why it is set up that way but it is the way it worked in my 2014 Limited and now my 2015 Overland.

I did get the trail rated version with the Hemi to actually use off-road. Since I had already put 60 miles on it I figured I would also test out all the functions of make sure they worked as advertised. I am happy to report that indeed they work great and I couldn't be happier. My previous jeeps have all been the 98 Limited 5.9L ZJ. While these have never let me down they are just not up to this new beast. Sadly my 2 old jeeps are going to be relegated to just working on the farm. Put out to pasture you could say.

First thoughts:

Luxurious off roading fun! I am so happy with it. I only have one minor gripe and that is with the tail pipes. Everything else is subdued with bronze black and the recon green but the tips... Bright chrome? Its the only chrome showing. Probably gonna be my second mod to get black or black chrome tips. First mod will be rock rails as soon as I decide which ones.

Ascent/decent speed control... Wow. Just Wow.

Clearance going over logs, gullies, whatever in OR2 is great. Glad the skid plates are there.

I didn't have a spotter so I kept it pretty mild and the back up camera came in handy.

I did have to put it into 4-low. I went a ways without but I eventually got to a few spots where hi and auto just didn't cut it. I also found that dry pine needles are rather slippery. Mud setting seemed to help on some of the areas. I was a bit worried about sliding down into a tree a couple of times but it held steady.

I handles nicely on the highway and much quieter than i'm used to even with the hemi. The auto high beam switching is very nice on back country roads and the HID lights are fantastic. I am going to be soooo spoiled now. Another thing I need to figure out is the brightness on the Uconnect console screen. In complete darkness on unlit roads making a tight right hand turn it is really hard to see being somewhat blinded by the display. Is there a setting for that somewhere? I need to look that up.

Hope every one can get a good idea about the color in the photos. If anyone wants pics of other details let me know and I'll see what I can do.

All in all I am really happy and going to stop this post now and go back out driving some more!
So THAT is what RECON looks like; very nice !
Wondering which model . . . Limited or Laredo . . . the Wheels say Laredo, but I did not realize you could option ORII on the Laredo ? ? ? Wether my Jeep will be a '16 75th Laredo with ORI or a '17 Laredo with ORI is yet to be decided !

Its a Limited 75th with Hemi, LUX, NAV and ORAII, the wheels switch to the 18" with the Kevlar side wall off-road tires, full metal skid plates, etc for trail rated with the ORAII. Couldn't get everything I wanted exactly how I wanted except on the Limited and I really like the color! And the recon green color is only supposed to be available for the 75th with a really short production run...

Sounds like why I went with the 75th. I considered an Overland, but didn't like all the chrome, and the only thing I'd have "gotten" out of it was the HK audio. I prefer the looks of the 75th better - no chrome and nicer front end. Having had my '14 and now this one...I prefer this one, especially in looks.

THANKS, You have Enlightened me, and perhaps a few others ! I never did a Build & Price on a Limited 75th thus not aware you could opt for the wheel switch or (if wrong) get it With the ORII package ! I personally do not need any further explanation as I am not gonna go "your route" - but NICE RIDE !

edit; I AM wondering now about the wrangler Kevlar tires . . had replaced my original '03 Ram1500 tires with a version of this very tire - in 2008 - the sidewall on those was ONLY 2 ply and Looking at the Goodyear website it appeared that the Kevlar (at the time) was only on the tred area, not the sidewall (not sure but?) . ANY thing you can add about Your tires ?

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee 75th Anniversary Edition

The ORA packages comes with 18" wheels as part of the package for all trim levels it's available for. For MY16, the ORA-II comes with "real" off road tires...that is a change from previous model years where Michelin "on-road" tires were provided, despite the "Off Road Adventure" package name.

Actual info on the side walls seems to be sparse. The new All-terrain Adventure tires with Kevlar are supposed to have the same sidewall as the MT/R and is advertised with/as having the Durawall(tm) sidewall protection. Supposedly 35% better side puncture/slashing protection. I can't find what the "Durawal Technology" really consists of. Just that it is proprietary and exclusive to Goodyear.

The tread is supposed to be silica-rubber compound, a layer of Kevlar, 2 steel belts on top of the sidewall wrap. ..."More durable than many other all-terrain tires, the tire's internal structure includes twin, high-tensile steel belts reinforced by a spirally wrapped layer of next-generation DuPont Kevlar cord to combine strength with comfort (Pro-Grade belts feature thicker steel cords reinforced by two layers of spirally wrapped DuPont Kevlar cord)." (The ones on the 75th are not the Pro grade/LT tires)

The makings on the tires say "PLIES: TREAD 2 POLYESTER + 2 STEEL + 1 POLYAMIDE SIDEWALL 2 POLYESTER" (Kevlar is a polyamide). It does not list polyamide as a separate ply on the sidewall so who knows how what makes them "Durawall" so maybe no Kevlar on the sides.

In any case they are really good AT tires and I'm happy with them... Not planning on changing them out anytime soon.

From the MT/R...
"The three-ply sidewall is composed of an outer layer of Kevlar-wrapped nylon core over two additional layers of nylon denier, which are set at slightly opposing angles. The Kevlar layer wraps around to the road contact surface at the edge of the outer tread block. There is a layer of rubber beneath, two opposing layers of polyester denier, and then the undertread which acts as a heavy-duty bladder to keep everthing in place at high speed."

Yes it is a nice change to have "real" off road tires and not have to replace them first thing.

Indeed. I left the Michelins on my '14 for 35K...blech. They were terrible in the snow. When I swapped them out for the AT Adventures, it was a night and day difference, especially in weather. Definitely nice not to have to spend a grand on tires as soon as I brought the '16 home!

Rocker, wow, what can I say but your kindness in going WAY beyond what I thought was a 1 sentence response ! You did all the research & wrote it all down! SO NICE, THANK YOU. Yes, my 2008 version of these was (& probably still is for the new owner) a Very Good Off Roader for me as well. Quiet (for what they are) on the Highway, great in snow, and "Tracky" in the dirt, gravel, mud, grass of the off road places my fly rods took me in the Ram1500.

edit; in fact it occurs to me that often enough I would here my 2003 Hemi over any road noise of those tires !

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee 75th Anniversary Edition

Well, I think I may have made a mistake...

Since I had finished the break-in I let my wife borrow my new jeep for a trip to WV: her first time driving it so I was just a bit nervous. She has a XC90.

About 20 minutes after she left my phone rang and I'm thinking oh-no!

So I answer and the first thing she says is: "OMG!"

Now my heart rate speeds up a bit... "Yes?"

And she continues... "OMG! This is sooo FUN to drive!! Its like driving a sports car, It so responsive!" (I had put steering in sports mode but had left the Hemi in Eco)

I think I compounded my mistake when I bragged that that was just Eco...

Well, later that night after going on about how great it was (yes, I found Eco off and sport on the next morning) guess what she said?

...

"I want one!"

LOL... the steering set to sport is how all GC's should feel. That's the one complaint I had on my 14. Making a turn felt like I was trying to steer a barge on the Mississippi River.
