Bill's a lifetime member, regardless of what he's currently driving.

Exterior

New front bumper with larger intakes. refreshed headlights and tails.
I really want to know what kind of changes are being made to the headlights/tails and why! It seems far too so to make any change, unless a Problem with the current design is being addressed.

And I'm not sure I trust a front end & headlight redesign done by FIAT controlled Jeep. I keep looking at the bug faced disaster of the Cherokee and worry about how they might screw up/change the Grand Cherokee.

Drivetrain-Biggest area of changes

new 3.6 and 5.7 hemi with 10% more hp and better fuel economy thanks to fiat multiair technology. new refined 8 speed tranny(no idea where this is coming from) Towing capacity to over 8000 pounds
This sounds great on paper. But what kind of "growing pains" might be encountered with this redesign? Do the Pluses outweigh the potential Minuses?!?

I've got a 2015 Overland on order. But I'd really like to see some details (and pictures) of this refresh prior to accepting a 2015 model. I'd hate to get a Brand New vehicle that suddenly feels and looks dated a few months later!

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee REFRESH

Snipe', any changes to the headlights and tails will likely be subtle. Even the MY14 refresh still fit things into the same space as the previous three model years. The platform isn't changing until MY18.

MY15 will be in production a little longer than normal since the MY16 debut is later than normal. You may very well not know the things you want to know before your Overland on order is available for delivery to you.

I'd assume that they will get rid of the remaining halogen bulbs and go with all LEDs, as a lot of current owners are already replacing them. 2016 is Jeeps 75th?anniversary. So they need to produce something a little different to get people to buy them. Plus all these changes makes those with older models really want to upgrade. If you have a 2013, your two designs behind. I'd want to upgrade as well. However the performance gains are really what is attractive.

Yeah... and that is my dilemma.

Should I accept the 2015 or wait for the 2016? The improved engine performance is very interesting (if done correctly).

I ran into a similar issue on my last vehicle; a 2005 Toyota 4Runner. The 2006 models came out a few months after I picked up my 2005, and there were some significant improvements that I regretted not having (Memory Seats, Auxiliary Audio Port, & Bluetooth among them).

I don't want that kind of situation to happen again with the WK2.

I think even these improvements will be a minor incremental change and suspect any "real" differences will come when the platform refresh comes a few years from now. If you don't "need" to buy something now, then waiting longer might be worth it, but you can't forget that there is the real possibility that these "new" things might also cost more. That has to be balanced against any potential savings over time from a slightly more efficient drive train, etc. And if for some reason something "really different" is introduced in the engine department, do you want to buy it first?

Do what I'm doing - lease the MY15 and after two years, switch to the MY17 which would be the final WK2 MY and will include all the goodies of the 'improved' MY16 but will probably have all potential issues worked out.

Then, you lease the MY17 for 2-3 years as well and you will avoid the initial 1-2 years of the all-new model coming as a MY18.

Best of both worlds - you will have a new vehicle (MY15 Overland) right away but won't be the guinea pig for the initial new MYs. Neither for MY16 nor for MY18 (with a high potential of having initial issues)...

As of today, the lease deals (the MF or interest, to be exact) are quite attractive so you wouldn't even lose money if you would lease for three years and decide to purchase your MY15 after the lease in case you want to skip MYs 16 & 17 altogether if you decide the improvements aren't worth it. The residual they are currently using, however, would also make it possible to switch to a new ride after 2 years into the 3-year lease without negative equity - that's what I'd call 'maximum flexibility'.

Not having to worry about extended warranties or new tires is a nice bonus!

"Jeep is planning world domination of the SUV market over the next five years with the 2014 Renegade, an all-new replacement for the Compass and Patriot in 2016, redesigns of the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in 2017, and a Suburban-sized SUV reviving the Grand Wagoneer badge in 2018."

That's what I'm saying - the all-new Grand Cherokee will be coming in 2017 which will be MY18. Am I missing something?

Well looks and "dated" are a personal thing. My wife drives a 2011 GC Overland and I prefer the look of that front end over the 2014 - 2015. I wish they had kept some of the 2011 - 2013 stuff like the rear flip glass and front end but the 8 speed tranny and the electronics of the 2014 are a great leap forward.
