Just be aware that there is a very finite limit to how much you can put in the vehicle as cargo when towing. It's not necessarily a generous number...

Ya, not generous at all if you are trying to pack in a full family and all the associated "stuff". The "payload" range is 1,050 lbs to 1,370 lbs for all humans, non-humans , cargo and options/access that are not included in official curb weight.

True. Too bad they only put gross weight on the door stickers. That includes cargo capacities too.

Ya so when you look it up things don't add up.

from jeep.com...

Payload
The sum resulting from subtraction of the curb weight from the gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR).

How come none of the numbers in chart pic follow this formula?

Take my 4x4, V8 Summit for example:

Using the published numbers (see chart pic) my Payload should be 6,800 (GVWR) - 5,219 (CW) = 1,581 yet the same chart says it's only 1,050 which matches all versions I've seen.

What am I missing? Boy I hope it isn't a "d'oh" moment

No, the published carrying capacities that they show are -150 Pounds for the Driver, -20 Pounds for Misc. and they include a full tank of fuel, and there is also some other stuff they calculate out but I can't seem to find the correlation with Fuel etc.

Don't quote me on this but this is the standard they use for calculating most of the other vehicles in the fleet... So I am assuming this applies to the GC

Hmm 150 and 20 already included? In which number? The footnotes and all other jeep towing guides don't include a generic weight. The curb weight notes that it already includes all fluids so its a true curb not dry weight.

They take 150lbs off for the Driver and 20 Pounds off for "options" in the carrying capacity. That is part of the difference between the quoted payload number and the match between GVWR and Dry weight. A lot of the internal specs quote this but I can't find any public information other than the Pickup Trucks that show this. There is some other weights in there, logically that is the only way to have a difference between the math of GVWR and Curb Weight otherwise there would not be the discrepancy, that is all.
