New shifter... let me guess... a rotating knob perhaps?!

Just found this video comparing the old electronic shifter to the hopefully new one in the Grand Cherokee.

That appears to be a huge improvement. I like how it actually shifts. 😉

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee REFRESH

Yuk, talk about throwback to the 80s

I love the gear shifter in the current WK2 - took a whole few seconds to get used to and have been hooked ever since.

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee REFRESH

Other than being able to say it's something new, I don't understand what the purpose of the change was.

You could replace the steering wheel, brake peddle, and accelerator with a joystick, but to what end?

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee REFRESH

Sorry folks, the Grand Cherokee won't get a refresh till 2018 at the earliest. Read the following link - later on in the article, Sergio talks about delaying the JGC refresh.

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee REFRESH

For those just joining the conversation "refresh" and "next generation platform" are two different things; the former brings new features and cosmetic changes to the existing platform, the latter is a completely new vehicle. It's important not to confuse them. For the current platform, the "refresh" cycle is MY14 and MY16 and it appears that the "next generation platform" is now MY19.

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee REFRESH

Any ideal if a 2016 with a HEMI will have a German or US built transmission?

No way will they chamge that. Stays un-modded or manuf physically by Chrysler, IMHO. The only reason Chrysler makes the 845RE (modded variant of OEM/ZF 8HP45) is to physically modify the clutches, etc to supposedly handle the platform specific torque demands/etal. I do not believe Chrysler makes it in US for cost/profit reasons. Heck they probably wish they could just stick the 8HP45 straight in.
