Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee REFRESH

To me, adding MultiAir to the HEMI and Pentastar sounds like a great idea. I wouldn't doubt that the combination of direct injection would add 10% more horsepower with added efficiency.

If it works as intended right off the bat, the last version of the WK2 should be great. Personally, I would hold off on the first generation of those engines with DI and MultiAir. Other manufacturers are still fighting carbon build up and high pressure pump issues on their DI cars. So, from a reliability perspective, the '15s might be the ones to have. From what I have read, the WK3 is going to be built off of a new platform shared with the rear wheel drive cars (Charger, Challenger, 300, etc.), so TOTALLY different than the DaimlerChrysler developed WK2.

Saves space and looks significantly better, especially when the job can all be done by a switch or button. Mechanical linkages and cables are a thing of the passed!
Maybe they'll bring back the old Mopar push button gear selector panel from the mid/late 50s?

My 1969 Dodge Dart had a push-button selector in it on the dash...if my memory serves correctly, of course.

My current 2013 Lincoln MKZ has one as well and I LOVE it! It's as easy as it gets. I can turn off the ignition while in D and it automatically switches to P. I get an audible and visual reminder that I wasn't in P when switching off but it still shifts on its own.

Re: 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee REFRESH

Not sure what the worry about the new engines is all about.
Fiat have been using Multiair in there engines since 2010, so any kinks in the actual system would be ironed out by now.
DI, has also been around for a very long time, especially considering diesels use them, and they've been the popular choice of engine in europe for over a decade now. Yes i understand the application varies very slightly for a petrol engine, but the technology is basically the same.
One of the biggest issues with carbon buildup is actually the fuel used. Now i'm not sure about gasoline in the states, but its a fact that your diesel is pretty poor compared to ours, so i wouldn't be surprised that your gas is too, if it all comes from the same base stock.

Will there be teething issues? Of course, but i guess thats why they are doing the R&D now to try to eliminate them. Remember, there is no better R&D than the consumer, so you have to expect some minor teething issues. I personally don't feel as though that should be a deterrent to buy the latest technology for your car. Otherwise we would never make any progress!

The 10% increase is most likely the detune being removed. The ram 5.7L produces 395hp, roughly 10% more. That's my guess. It would be cool if the 5.7L got some physical updates

That gives me a headache, too. My current lease expires a few months after the scheduled initial introduction of the WK3. That's why I'm probably going to trade in a year early and get the final MY of the WK2 first and lease that one for 2-3 years before switching to WK3.

Will cost me a few additional $$$ though..

Probably OK with the model year overlaps and guaranteed remaining late build wk2 inventory to buy til gone.

True - and considering the relatively low residual that was used in my deal and that I probably won't be putting as many miles on it as expected, trading in a bit early might not hurt that much.

I think Fiat / Chrysler will not develop two platforms and will therefore use the one they use for the Maserati SUV. We will See What we will get this year in the Maserati!

1964 was the last year the push button was offered, Jim.
