SRT is done. This could be the change to the TrackHawk. Rumors are the 6.4 remains with the 6.2 as an option. No idea as of yet. Some are saying 0-60 under 4 seconds and 12 second 1/4 mile. More info in SRT forum
Thanks, Scott. I'm actually surprised they're going to do this refresh for the MY16 with the new platform not that far into the future, but some new choices will be nice for folks. I'm hoping they offer a light interior choice at the luxury end for those of us who hate dark interiors, for example. Summit is one of the few lux SUVs that you can't get a tan or similar interior. And hopefully that new paint system will let them get a little bolder on the outside.
Probably not. In the recent past, Jeep typically has done it's vehicle reveals at the NY Auto Show in April. (The Renegade was an exception with a Geneva debut because it is produced in Europe and was released to the Euro market already).
It seems recently that the only reveals for Jeep in Detroit are for special editions, trims, etc.
I would assume the "refreshed headlights" would simply improve light output and perhaps address people's complaints about the black plastic knockout on the HID/LED lights.
If they are touching the tails, then I would guess they would go to a full LED setup, instead of the mixed LED/incandescent setup they have now.
I like the idea of more towing capacity but we shall see if any of this proves to be true.
Any new info on this.... has production started? I have been waiting for a new front look for years and am positioned to place an order today. I sure hope they fixed the misfit bumper to headlight issue.
My guess would be a switchover to the 8HP75 for the Hemi and diesel and an 8HP50-based version for the V6. These are ZF's 2nd gen 8-speeds based on the original 8HP45/70. Chrysler may produce the 8HP50 version as an 850RFE in-house as with the 845RFE which is a licensed version of the 8HP45. My guess would be that any use of the 8HP75 behind the V8 and diesel would remain as units purchased from ZF, unless the volume (between the GC and RAM trucks and so forth) warrants an in-house licensed version.
I was under the impression that the new V6 (possibly with a turbo) was going to be in the refreshed JGC?
Also, if its going to get some of the new tech that Milous mentioned (such as electronic parking brake) then they would have to do at least some minor updating to the interior to accommodate the extra switches no?
I seriously hope it gets a decent refresh, as my lease is up in November and it will probably be the last Jeep i buy for a while, so i hope it gets the new state of the art engine and all the tech to go with it.
The Ram trucks have the knob and the 8 speed. I like them both, just takes some getting used to either way. My 2010 Dakota still has the steering column shifter, so flipping back and forth between that and the Jeep can get interesting.
You heard it here first! The next generation GC will come with a giant LCD screen on the dash and you will need to use a wireless mouse to change your gears.
Personally I don't understand why they see a need to get away from the 2011 shifter, it works great and has mechanical feedback. The move to small / all touch interfaces is stupid.

Because honestly, having a shifter of any sort in cars is becoming obsolete and "old school". Also, why would anyone need "Feedback" from a gear selector? Its not like its a manual transmission, its just an auto that you pop into gear and go. More and more new cars are coming with NO shifter whatsoever and IMO thats awesome! Saves space and looks significantly better, especially when the job can all be done by a switch or button. Mechanical linkages and cables are a thing of the passed!
You would think so, but on our '14 I still miss the "gear" I want quite often if I don't down at the shifter. It seems rather silly to me to make a big mechanical "switch" that has no mechanical connection to the transmission to make it seem mechanical when it really isn't. I would just as soon have a knob on the dash like the trucks.
Personally I really enjoy the shifter on the 14/15's. After driving mine for a little over a year, I have only gone into the wrong gear/setting a few times, and I noticed immediately by looking at the dash. I like that if I need more power quickly I can just move the shifter back real quick without thinking about it. I don't want to be feeling around for some knob, and twisting it left and right to do a three point turn. I recognize that the 14/15 shifter isn't perfect, but if they were to change it I would want something to "hold on to."
