2016 limited grand Cherokee issue

Pentastar engine
75th anniversary

Loving the car so far, 162 miles since Tuesday when I took delivery.

I've noticed something strange tonight:

While accelerating from time to time, there's this mechanical click noise that comes from the dash, it will make the click noise again when I let go of the pedal as well.

It almost sounds like a fuse does when trying to raise the power window, when it's already closed.

The noises happens randomly, not every time.

Has anyone ever encountered something like this?

Could it be the auto lock? Most vehicles seem to have an auto lock features that locks the doors at 15mph (or so). Could it be triggering repeatedly? Just speculating here....

Oh no, it's no where near as loud as the auto lock. If the radio is on, you won't hear it.

So I googled the problem and this person from Australia had the same issue.

I replied to his thread and they're telling me the JGC calibrates itself when it's a new car and that's the sound it makes when pressing the gas and releasing.

Re: 2016 limited grand Cherokee issue

^^ no there is no calibration thing when new that would create a click sound...no idea what calibration they are even talking about.

I never experienced the noise you are speaking of but here are a couple things that I do know of which may or may not help you. First is the Grand Cherokee has a solenoid in the transfer case that clicks in certain situations and is mainly heard when you start off or about to come to a stop. The only catch is this click isn't really heard from the dash, but mainly only with the windows down especially if you're driving along a wall. I haven't noticed this click on my latest WK2 which is a 2015 HA with V6. So maybe they took care of that loud solenoid on more recent builds. Does the noise seem to be without a doubt inside the cabin and in the dash or is here a chance it could be coming from underneath?

The other possibility is the relays down in the passenger footwell are for sure audible when something like the heated steering wheel, heated seats, or ventilated seats turn on. One guy couldn't figure out why he always heard the clicks when he started his car....turned out to be the auto comfort feature that turned on the seats and wheel automatically when he started the vehicle. It's not a problem, just loud relays clicking. This wouldn't happen during driving though unless you do it yourself.

Last possibility is maybe there is something loose and rolling around in the dash. I test drove a 2015 HA V6 overnight a while back and it literally had something rolling around in the dash. Was only heard on turns though, not start and stop. It sounded exactly like a marble rolling around and seemed to come from high up in the dash, or even possibly under the hood near the cowl. I never did see anything, but it was for sure annoying and would have had to been fixed.

Other than those things I can't think of anything else. There should not be an audible click or noise in your Grand Cherokee when you start or stop.

Maybe I didn't explain it well. The noise comes when cruising.

For example:

Going 40mph, lightly depress gas pedal to speed up to 45-50. I hear a click noisie from behind/under the dash. It's very faint, like a relay or tiny plastic door actuating. Once I let go of the gas, I hear that noise again.

It does not happen every time, I can only randomly reproduce it while going in a straight line.

Once again, it's definitely a relay or something actuating. Maybe the noise is in the engine bay and the sound projects to the dash.

You really can only hear it if you turn off all music, close Windows and pay attention. Today I didn't hear it for example.

Re: 2016 limited grand Cherokee issue

Oh ok, well either way what I described are the only noises I have ever heard a WK2 make. My 2015 V6 absolutely does not make the noises you describe and I have owned it since 19 miles and I am extremely sensitive to weird noises lol.

Not sure if this is what you are talking about but I have heard what may be similar on my 2014 summit. I sometimes hear a very faint brief chatter (not anti lock pulses, not a rattle) lower left dash possibly engine bay, usually cruising at medium speed, foot off gas or on gas but not on brake, usually other cars in the area, its generally infrequent and inconsistent but there is a road with on coming traffic where I have noted I can often hear it. its very mild and faint and I never attributed it to anything being wrong just the way the jeep is and something that one of the systems is doing. in the back of my head I was thinking that it may have had something to do with the brake system and the prefill I read about that it can do in anticipation of a braking situation but I really don't know what it is but never investigated it further. I have had the jeep 3 years and it still does it but I think I have just tuned it out as normal operation.

Yea, seems to be normal operation and just lack of refinement.

Also, when pressing the brake while in park, on the new 2016 shifer, you can prominently hear the shift lock disengage and re engage when letting go of the brake.
