2016 Overland with Forward Collision Warning

Can the automatic braking be turned off when you do not want it on? Can only the warning be activated? Looking at an Overland and it has this feature. Thanks.

yep, usually the warning is all you ever need it wakes you and you take action. I have had braking activate before but its very uncommon and when it has I was glad it did, its not intrusive but yes you can turn it off and just allow the warnings

Re: 2016 Overland with Forward Collision Warning

I was a little concerned about this feature before I owned my 15 summit. I have come to love the cruise control ( although I was nervous about this at first ) and the automatic collision prevention. A few days ago it may have saved me from suddenly stopping traffic on the freeway. Maybe I would have stopped in time... Maybe not... Thanks to the electronics on the car, I didn't have to find out the hard way...

Yes you can turn it off, you can also drive without your seatbelt. It's a valuable feature and I will shop for it on my next vehicle.

Re: 2016 Overland with Forward Collision Warning

Disabling the auto-braking piece of forward collision warning was one of the first things I did in my 15' Overland. I don't think it works well for someone who drives somewhat aggressively and/or drives in traffic. In the first week of owning it I had someone change lanes in front of me on the freeway and my Jeep slammed on the brakes unnecessarily. Since disabling the braking I've had the audible alerts go off a few times for the same scenario (someone changing lanes closely in front of me) and in one instance because someone got in a lane to my left which was a turn lane and slowed down very abruptly.

Re: 2016 Overland with Forward Collision Warning

I also have my active braking disabled. Obviously like others have said you still get the visual and audible alert, but the last thing I want my Jeep to do is slam on the brakes on its own when not necessary, and for the most part that's all you hear about.

Re: 2016 Overland with Forward Collision Warning

The auto-braking is not perfect. I, like everyone else, have had instances where it slammed on the brakes either unnecessarily or harder than it should have. That being said, here are my two biggest takeaways:

1) The 1 time is kicks in during an actual save-your-ass situation, youll be damn happy you have it. Without it I would have slammed into the back of car that decided to stop in the middle lane of an intersection with a green light because they decided they needed to turn left instead. Its like wearing your seatbelt. 99.9% its unnecessary, but you only need it to its job that one time to make it all worth it.

2) Its made me a better driver. After learning how the system works and what could cause false alarms, ive adjusted my driving style for the better. I give the car in front of me a bit more space than before or I slow down when someone is making a right rather than continuing at speed knowing ill just clear their bumper as they turn. I cant say this will happen to you or anyone else, but for me it made me realize some of my driving habits were not the best and how to adjust accordingly.

I will be looking for this feature on all of my future vehicles.

Thank you for the help. I have not picked her up yet. How do you disable the braking while keeping the alarm on? I am going to run it like this for awhile.

Or the one time it breaks hard while threat is under control the car behind slams on you. I keep mine off and just have audible alert. That alone is nerve racking.

Re: 2016 Overland with Forward Collision Warning

I've always been happy to have it on my 2014 and 15. Never bothered deactivating it. It's always worked well.

Ditto.

I have it fully enabled on my 2015 Overland. I drive rather aggressively and still have very few false alarms. I can't remember the last false alarm (several months ago I think) but I did have it activate yesterday. I saw the car turning off the roadway in front of me and figured it would be out of my way in time. The FCW system disagreed and applied the brakes. I'm not sure which of us was right but it was close.

BTW, you can disable the active braking via the UConnect menu system. Just read the manual when you get your vehicle (or download a copy of the manual now to read it early).

Like pretty much all settings it's in the Uconnect settings. When you get your Jeep spend some time going through all the menus to set the Jeep up exactly how you want it. Things like lights, locks, remote start features, air suspension settings etc etc.
first things I do in the settings to my Jeep is turned off the super annoying remote start horn honk as well as liftgate chime which IMO is also annoying and unnecessary.

Re: 2016 Overland with Forward Collision Warning

I turn off the annoying honk for everything. It's too obnoxious. In my Audi, it was a cool chirp. Wish we had something like that for people who need something audible apart from visual.

The liftgate chime I need to keep on for my two young kids in case they are lingering there.
