Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

Speaking of the MDS system in the Hemi V8. Towards the end of ownership of my 2014 Summit V8, the MDS starting really getting annoying to me. At first I didn't think much of it and it did work "behind the scenes" mostly, but for whatever reason either the system started becoming more noticeable, or I just started paying attention more, but it got annoying enough to where I found myself turning ECO mode off. For example driving in my neighborhood with somewhat slower speeds and a lot of turns where I didn't completely stop and would be on and off the accelerator would drive me nuts. As you would get back into the accelerator the Jeep would kind of sputter, then about a second later it would get back into all 8 cylinders and go. This process was noticeable to me, enough so that when I bought my 2015 V6 it was so smooth and interruption free and I loved it. Wish the system was a little more seamless on the V8. I wonder if I owned a 2016 V6 with ESS if I would find myself getting just as annoyed?

Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

I've always wondered if the MDS was programmed to not engage until the vehicle has a certain number of miles on it so that test drives don't scare people off. I can't remember any of my test drives in my SRT or Ram including the annoying MDS kicking in. It's too bad it can't be shut off permanently without voiding the warranty.

My '16 Hemi hasn't been bad. I need to be more careful coming off a stop than I did with the V6, if I stomp on it too hard it'll knock my head back into the headrest.

Most likely, you would get annoyed. You wouldn't like ESS. I tested it out last weekend. Needless to say, it was very hard for me to get use to in my short test drive. So if I get a HA, I'll definitely be turning this feature off all of the time lol

I have had several Tahoes and a suburban.. Some had worse V4/V8 mode switches than some of the others. My 14 Hemi was great thankfully because I remember one tahoe that was horrid.

Well thats a whole nother story in itself that I thought was not related to MDS, but I supposed it could be. Yes my '14 Hemi Summit had TERRIBLE throttle delay in quick throttle input situations. Most of the time it goes unnoticed and driveability is fine, but every now and then when you need to get into the throttle quickly it can be very scary.
One situation I remember not too long before I traded it, I was driving down a parking lot lane when in the corner of my eye I see some teenager started pulling out of a parking spot without looking my direction whatsoever. It was at the point where stopping was not an option as he would go right into the side of my Jeep, so I decided to hit the throttle fast and hard. The friggin Jeep did nothing!!! Then finally after it had to think about it and decided oh hey lets go now then it took off like a bat out of hell and I was still able to get out of the way but it was close. I am happy to say my new HA V6 does not seem to suffer that throttle response delay.

Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

Yeah not an MDS comment, just sharing my thoughts on your comment nbelow as I knew it was the e-throttle delay....forgot to mention this does not exist, AFAIK, in Sport mode only in ECO mode....even it I weren't a sport mode type driver I would not use ECO mode for this single reason of the e-throttle tip-in delay...just a driving preference niggle as most driver's probably don't know it's happening.

Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

My rental car is a 2016 Durango with the start/stop. I know it's not a jeep but it might as well be.

I am not a fan for two main reasons.

1) you can feel the shutter of the engine when it's starts and stops. You know the engine is turning off or on, especially as the driver maybe not as the passenger
2) the ac takes a noticeable hit when the engine turns off. The air coming out turns into a slightly cool breeze and when the engine turns back on it goes to freezing cold. When you live in texas where the temperatures can top 100, you'll feel the ac going from cold and refreshing to slight colder than room temperature.

All in all, I don't think it's worth the 1mpg bump. If it was something signicant than I would go for it. But I'll splurge the extra $2 at the pump to not have the feature

Right now, traffic lights often do the opposite of what they were intended, which was to help traffic flow. In fact, in some areas, that's intentional as the mindset is to use them to slow traffic down.

The problem is, the opposite affect happens when people sit at too many lights for too long. Often, they literally race from one light to another, hoping to occasionally beat the cycle. So, not only do people use more fuel starting off quicker than they normally would, but the end up sitting longer by getting to a stop light sooner.

Where I live, there's one traffic light that should be the model for every other light. It not only senses when a car is waiting at a red light, but also monitors traffic both on the main and side roads. What that means is, if I miss the light coming out of the side road, but traffic on the main road is light or even non-existent, I'll get a green light immediately. If traffic is heavy on the main road, but cars get backed up to a second trigger further back on the side road, it will wait longer to change, but not quite a full cycle. If the side road is nearly empty, but traffic on the main road is heavy, the full cycle will be given. Likewise, if there's a lot of traffic on the side road coming out on the green, the light will stay green longer on the side road to clear more of it. If there are only a couple cars, the green for the side road will shorten.

If more lights took the actual traffic flow into account, we'd save a ton of gas yearly.

Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

350 miles 13 days and counting. Told myself I would get used to it.
Problem here is that people stop then move up through out the traffic light cycle. So it doesn't really stay engaged.
