Yes, I know. That's why I said my button pushing just moves one to the left for the ESS.

We've had ours just a week but no complaints, honestly, I mostly don't even notice it but we're pretty relaxed drivers. If you are quick to get on the gas from a stop, you can get off the brake and onto the accelerator a bit quicker than it can accommodate. If you just casually get off the brake and onto the gas, no issues at all. That said, it looks like most spirited drives will always cut it off. ymmv

It works just as good as my gfs BMW X6.

In both cars you noice it if you pay attention. If you're listening to the radio or talking, you can't tell.

I like the feeling. Very premium feeling with that quick start up and the complete silence at stop.

The only annoying part is that it will kick in when doing a full stop at a stop sign which conditions you to roll through them more often.

I haven't read this entire thread, but I've definitely seen something I don't like about the start/stop.

At least twice (two weeks old)... My wife was pulling into the garage. Inching in to find the right spot (this is a new car for her). When she placed it in park, the starter fired. I dunno if it was just about to shut off or if this is some malfunction.

I dismissed the first occurrence - then it happened again. She definitely was not stopped for the 15 seconds as defined in the EVIC. And I'm nearly certain it didn't shut off completely.

Mine does this as well. Hence why it's annoying at stop signs. It shuts off almost immediately as you come to a full stop.

With one press of a button on the dash, mine works flawlessly.

What button? I want this permanently disabled. It's so bad, I may take it back to the dealer and tell them to keep it. This thing will need a new starter every few years.

BTW - the ECO off button DOES NOT disable the start/stop on our 2016

On the 2016 the button to disable start/stop is beside the Eco button. I believe it has a A on it. The disable button only works until you restart the engine however.

If you have a 16 with the 3.6L, there's an ESS button (labeled A) on the dash, next to and to the left of the ECO button. Yes, you'll have to press it every time you start the vehicle if you want to disable ESS. If you can't train yourself to do that then yes, you should take it back.

This is not the same starter that's used in the non-ESS GC's... hell, it doesn't even sound the same. I've read that the ESS starter was duty tested to 2 million cycles. ESS also comes with a 130A auxiliary battery. Chances are you'll wear yourself out fretting over this before the starter does.

Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

Still stupid. I'm not pushing another damn button every time I crawl into my wife's car. The SOB fires the starter when the f'in engine is running. No one can convince me it's a good idea.
I thought my Ram was stupid for turning on my heated seat and steering wheel at the same time it fires up the AC. Because the temp WAS below 40 outside when I turned the truck off.

But this is a reason to NOT buy this vehicle. Annoying as hell

I guess you better sell it then.

Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

Unfortunately it's either keep it and deal with it until they come out with an update that hopefully fixes some of the issues, or yeah sell it is the only other option. I wondering some of the Cherokee guys are having similar issues since its been on that for much longer than the Grand?
I don't have a 2016 so I can't say one way or the other, but yeah if I had a car that randomly engaged the starter, or would turn off at stop signs only to turn on 1 second later, or shut off when I park and start again jut before I turn it off lol.
I'm sure they will come out with a fix. Unfortunately things like that happen with new engines and other systems. Gotta work the bugs out.
