Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

Hopped in a co-workers Durango rental with start stop. In stop & go traffic he was getting annoyed. I hit the disable button on the dash and he was super grateful. LOL.

I could see where it would be nice at longer stoplights a or maybe a drive thru though.

I would want it off more than on for sure.

Controlling it with the brake would be ideal. I know it says that it won't engage unless enough brake pressure is applied, but can you work it so it will shut on demand while stopped?

I program and something like this would be very easy to write. If the vehicle is moving disable the feature, if the vehicle is not moving then a certain amount of pressure shuts it off. That would be better and most would get used to it after awhile and not even notice it.

i don't know what you're saying exactly. if you have your foot on the brake and come to a stop, the engine shuts off. the instant your foot comes off the brake, it starts.

1300 miles in and i haven't felt like i wanted to shut it off once. ymmv.

When people are stopped they are normally have barley any pressure on the brake and the car is prevented from moving.

Normal pressure = car running
More Pressure = car shuts off

ah, i see. a multi-stage brake pedal. interesting. sounds like something else to go wrong. as it is, if you want to turn off the feature, it's very simple to extend a finger and push the button.

It is really amazing to me that everyone is making such a big deal about this. I have had my 2016 JGC for a couple weeks now and it works great. Even if it is on you can keep it from engaging but lightly using the brake. If you don't want it just push the freaking button.

Good Lord, people are you really not going to buy a great car because you don't want to push a button when you start it???? And if you are worried that every new improvement is simply "one more thing that can break" just keep it simple and ride your bicycle to work. The rest of us will enjoy the updates and improvements!

Re: 2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

Guys this is an honest question since I know nothing about the start/stop feature. So drivers typically have auto climate control on whether its in winter to heat or summer to cool. Every now and then the windows are down and climate control off. So when climate control is on and let's say it's 90 and humid out. So on a hot summer day does the start/stop feature just never activate? I mean in those temps it wouldn't take but 10 seconds to start feeling the hot air start pumping out when the engine turns off.
So I guess I'm just confused at how this system can work and keep the cabin at the selected temp when climate control systems are usually on. So if you live in south FL or Phoenix in the summer do you basically have a car that will never activate a feature in which it was designed to have?

2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

I will take my craptastic shifter ('14-'15 style) any day of the week, over having the start/stop feature.

2016 Owners...how's the stop and start working?

Another irritating system that saves very little gas if any. Another reason to push me into a v8.

I'm trying to imagine in my head what it's going to sound like in the future when I'm stopped at an intersection and every cat around me is stopping and starting. Maddening I'll bet.
