2016 PUG 6 cylinder

Some things I have read in threads here say the new 6 cylinder engine will be 290 hp. But I have read something slightly different yesterday. Does anyone know if this information (below) is correct and when this new engine (upgrade) might be available? I looked in the forum and I think this is pretty new information.

Hp spec is 295. Production launch (2016 model year) is late December.

Re: 2016 PUG 6 cylinder

What is so special about the peak HP number which is the same as the old engine? There are some upgrades for sure and torque appears to be higher at lower RPM but it is not a new engine nor is the upgrade as dramatic as Chrysler makes it to be.

There must be something special if they are allowing an already short model year to be delayed another month because of it.

Re: 2016 PUG 6 cylinder

Some of the differences I have heard recently is that it will have 295 HP, slightly more low end torque and not be direct injection. I was wondering if all 2016 Grand Cherokees will have this updated engine.

Re: 2016 PUG 6 cylinder

That's awesome it won't be direct injected.

After owning a Direct Injected VW 2.0T I'm very leery of direct injection ($700 every 30K to clean the gunk out).

Isn't it also supposed to have Stop/Start?
I thought the Cherokee already had the PUG 6?

295 is correct. It will be standard on all models (except SRT of course).

Re: 2016 PUG 6 cylinder

What manufactures are after these days are MPGs as they are chasing CAFE standards. I wonder what those numbers will look like on MY 2016.

Additionally, I wish good luck to all the beta testers that will purchase MY2016. Bought 2014, will never make that mistake again. Love the truck but I wish I had waited until 2015.

Re: 2016 PUG 6 cylinder

If this engine update along with the new lighter suspension components can increase the mpg rating 1-2 gallons, I feel that would be a decent improvement especially considering what other vehicles in the class have for mpg ratings.

Re: 2016 PUG 6 cylinder

Why does Chrysler/Fiat not take advantage of a Flex Fuel motors ability to burn E85 and make more power? Other manufactures do it 'cough' Ford 'cough'. I would run e85 if it made more power stock.

E85 has less energy (85% Ethanol + 15% Gasoline) than 100% Gasoline. You will never get more power from that mixture, Chemistry doesn't work that way, sorry.

Not to mention that e85 gets about 25% less mileage per gallon.
