Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I like the way the overland looks plus the cooled front seats are a necessity here in texas.

Although the black floor mats with the light interior on the limited is a much better idea than the tan ones that come in the overland. It is impossible to keep a tan floor mat clean.

...
You get the cooled seats and just about everything else on the Limited when you load all the options packages onto it, and still still save a grand or two.

Beyond that, it basically comes down to the HK and interior and exterior styling.

I want to buy a GC this go around but I'm hung up on something and I need some help/advice.

Being in the wireless communications business for 20+ years I absolutely don't buy dated electronics. My understanding is that Jeep will be introducing a new Uconnect system with a capacitive screen, enhanced processing power and start up times, better resolution and brightness along with Apple and Android integration.

I can't find any direct confirmation anywhere outside the CES show announcement in Las Vegas last January. Since I'm planning on keeping this vehicle for at least 5 years the last thing I want looking at me everyday is a dated screen and non-upgradeable head unit. It kind of looks old now and will look like a dinosaur in a couple of years ...unacceptable for me.

Who makes this unit for Jeep and whats the status?

The last thing I want to do is go out next weekend and buy a 2016 GC and find out I should have waited for the soon to be released 2017 ... or worst I wait and order a 2017 and find out NOONE knows ANYTHING at the dealership - they just want to "sell the tomatoes on the cart" now where I want something better for my $50,000.

I'm not so hung up on the Apple/Android piece as that just software that can be added and upgraded at a later date as long as the hardware delivered on the 2017 is not the current generation unit.

Please don't tell me Jeep just wants to get it right and needs more time work on it ...WRONG answer. Deliver the new generation hardware and the software can be upgraded later.

Everything else looks good to me so I can enjoy my first Jeep EXCEPT the dated screen/infotainment technology.

Not ranting just frustrated as I can't find anything definitive ... this is not a National Security issue that can't be shared and revealed. Cruise on over to Ford, GM, and others as they get it.

thanks for helpful responses! - Milous can you jump in here?
The succinct response is that initially, the MY17 will have the same UConnect system as the MY16. There is a new version being released in MY17, but it's delayed until approximately mid-model-year. That new system is supposed to support Apple CarPlay and will have some other enhancements. Milous has detailed this previously in this thread.

What package on the Limited offers the cooled seats, and is it available for the back seat as well? I've never had a vehicle that cooled the kids in the back properly.

Lux II package I believe it's called and it also includes hid bi-xenon headlights, panoramic sunroof and some other stuff. It's only for front seats though. Jeep doesn't offer ventilated back seats in any model or trim level.

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

So I just received confirmation from my dealer who contacted Chrysler that both the "Rhino" color and the 20 inch wheels for the Trailhawk will be "late availability". Can't Chrysler get on the ball and make these things available at launch??

Oh well guess the ZJ is going to have to solider on for a couple more months

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Jim, maybe you can chime in on this. If I use the price link to WK2Jeeps, I get the following.

OVERLAND
List. 47695
Dest. 995
Hemi 28P. 3295
19 speaker audio RCA. 995
Blind spot cross path XAN 595
Safety group AJ1. 1495
QDII AWB. 795
TOTAL. 55865

SUMMIT
List. 53995
Dest. 995
Hemi. 3695
TOTAL. 58685

If I do that, what is the Overland missing that the Summit has?

The Summit has the suede like headliner, different fascias, different wood inside, the active noise cancellation, and lighted door sills.

Thanks! Could have sworn they had the same headliner but not a lot of difference for 2k if you want the light interior.
