Dodge did a promotion with their Charger/Challenger when they were about to release a new body style (or update). You could lease it for a year and when the new ones came in they would swap out your car with the newer version. A radio swap would be wayyy cheaper than a full vehicle swap.

(id also settle for a low upgrade fee. $299 to get the new radio installed in any 2017 Grand Cherokee).
That is a very nice idea...if that unit will actually be ready for any of the 2017 model year...

First they need to determine if they need any incentives. I think the Grand Cherokee line is usually running at full capacity. If that holds true for the 2017, why do a costly promotion.

It would be a nice gesture for sure!

First they need to give some info on wtf is going on with this whole debacle. I have said it before that if two people both have 2017 model GC's and one realizes they don't have CP/Android Auto, that person will be pissed and feel screwed.

How can dealers not have a contact at FCA/Jeep to ask "Could you please find out what is going on with Carplay"

Of course we have Milous info, but is that a guess or concrete info? Why even go through all this when they could install the new radio on all 2017 grand cherokees and just disable carplay until they feel its ready, then a update at the dealer would unlock it...Problem solved..

Isn't it possible that the radio manufacturer is the one that isn't ready? Remember, these radios are not just radios. They are the communication center for other modules. It always seems easy when looking from the outside in, when you have no clue what the issues are.

BTW - I would trust info from Milous before I would trust a dealer. When I ordered my '14 I gave the dealer the prices, from Milous, because he didn't have them.

I don't just throw out random guesses, I give the best information available at the time, and make it clear if the info is solid or not.

I have stated for quite awhile now that CarPlay would NOT be available at launch for the 2017 Grand Cherokee, and that IF they decide to implement it as a running change it would not happen until next year. So far, that information has proven to be 100% accurate.

Jeep will issue press releases for the 2017 model year on September 1st. The advance copies of these press releases do not mention CarPlay at all, while the press releases for a few other non-Jeep models do list CarPlay.

The earliest that I can determine that CarPlay will launch in the vehicles I have confirmed (Charger/Challenger/200/300) is not until Q1 of 2017.

For those patient enough to wait out the new radios, here's some concrete info: They will have a faster processor, quicker start-up time, higher resolution screens with enhanced/sharper graphics, plus pinch, tap and swipe capability. Models are UAS (8.4" non-nav) and UAQ (8.4" with nav).

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Milous,

Based off the information you know so far, would it be possible to swap out an older 8.4 with the newer one once it is released? Either on a 2017 model or any WK2

Yeah, but will the nav be able to locate Nottsure and/or Wair?

Definitely, right out of the gate. Also expanded coverage for the outlying areas - Wharethefork, M.I. and Arwetheiryet.
