The Limited comes in just about $2100 less than the Overland before you add the same features you selected on the Limited $3600 after you add safety package. Only thing I did not do was add the 20" wheels to the Limited. What advantage, other than having the grey plastic around the wheels painted body color and 20" wheels, does the Overland offer?
I am coming from a MY2015 Limited Lux II (it was a manufacturer buy-back) and I am going into a MY2017 Overland or Summit. In previous years, you saved quite a bit of coin if you got the "almost Overland" Limited with the Lux II package (sticker was $45,115).

For MY2017, because you must have the safety package (at least on the draft build-it site), the Limited Lux II doesn't seem like quite a good deal anymore. I can't remember the exact price of MY2017 Limited Lux II that I built, but it was almost as expensive (like $49k) as a real MY2017 Overland.

The additional features that you get on the Overland makes it a no-brainier, at least for myself. I really missed having the power-foldable mirrors, air suspension, standard tow package, painted side fenders, and the luxuries (leather dash, wood steering wheel, etc.) of the Overland.

I also realize that some of the off-roading crowd doesn't want or need the air suspension due to the modifications they will make, so a Limited Lux II is an Overland for them.

The other thing is the Limited this year looks more like a Laredo than ever before. Nothing wrong with that, but for 49k for the Lux II, I am kind of disappointed.

On a personal note, in NY there are so many black Limiteds going around (I've been on a highway with 4 Limiteds (next to and behind me)), I wanted something different this year.

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Different strokes, and there are still a few shekels to be saved by going the Limited route. Mine will be a 4x4 3.6L with all options except the disc players. It will have Quadra-Drive II (air suspension with ELSD) along with almost all of what an Overland would have except for some things I actively dislike — the wood steering wheel, the leather dash, the tan carpets, the logos and contrast welting on the seats. I don't mind the plastic fender trim with the Granite color. Yes I wish I could get the HK sound system, but if I'm not happy enough with the Alpine I'll use that saved $995 to upgrade the speakers. I think the only other somewhat-useful thing I won't get is the power-folding mirrors, but that's OK. (I have them on my Yukon, and I bet I don't use them once a year.)

If I calculated right, it will list out at $49,725, Koons out-the-door price $44,730. That compares to a similarly-equipped (no HK) Overland at $51,175/$46,620. Not a big difference, but it will buy a few dinners and I won't be paying extra for stuff I don't like.

The difference in the look is fairly subtle to my eye. I even like the Limited 18" wheels better. (OK, I do like the chrome towhooks on the Overland. Maybe I'll buy some of those.)

If everyone uses the same logic you outlined, which I think is valid, you will soon be surrounded by Overlands instead of Limiteds. Maybe it is time for an SRT.

SRT is too rich for my blood . I'm actually only getting th V-6, which is plenty of power for me.

What's interesting is I was just in Alaska and expected to see a lot WK2s there, but I see more here in NY at the local malls.

BubbaATL, at the end of the day, the Limited Lux II is probably more than what most of us need. Quite frankly, even at MSRP $45,015 for the MY2015 Lux II, it was alot of bang for the money.

This time around, when I get my Overland or Summit, I'll be wanting an even higher model (no SRT for me, ). Sometimes 'man' is never content! I'm sure you're going to like your new rig. I'm also working along with Craig over at Koons. I miss my 15' Limited Lux II already, and its only been 1 month.

I have been looking at 2017 Summits but it seems like the only headliner option now is light/white.

Did they get rid of the black headliner in dark (Black or Granite) going from 2016 to 2017? If that's the case I'll probably entertain an Overland instead. Bummer.

If you get Saddle Brown/Black interior you get the black headliner. Last year it had the light grey headliner. So they basically flipped the headliner colors between the two going into 2017.

Jeep Brown still gets a matching dark brown headliner.
