Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Is the front fascia going to be changing for the 2017 overland as well? All the talk has been about summit and trailhawk with no real mention about what changes to expect for any of the other trims

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

If I was buying a new HA today I'm pretty certain it would be velvet red. I was looking at pictures of all of them on dealers lots and its awesome!

Imagine the new Overland will look like a Trailhawk front end but without red tow hooks & graphics

The unknown for me is if the HA will carry and how they will update that one. I'm almost betting it won't, but total guess

Opposite for me, I feel I must wait for a 17. I have been waiting for CarPlay for 2 years now and that feature alone is worth the upgrade and the extra cost I have to pay rather than buying a 16.

I personally don't understand the hype for CarPlay. I'm more intrigued about the light exterior refresh but I'd be sad if I waited and the HA wasn't continued.

It is less hype and more desire to not keep using the 4" screen on my phone as a nav device even though I have a large display "nav device" that has no updated maps, no reliable traffic avoidance, no easy way of inputting addresses (try "take me to the Lowe's" as the only voice input on the RA4 and let me know how that works), and conveniently linked items like gas stations on the route - not to mention the constant feature updates you get on google maps. It will be a hard call if I wait, jump ship (I hear the Explorer has Android Auto on the 17's), or capitulate and do without it for another five years if it doesn't make it on MY17. I really like the interior improvements though on MY17 summit, as well as lane keeping.

^^I agree, I wouldn't buy an explorer because of car play.. I wouldn't even take one for free.

LOL - I would definitely take one for free . I agree with the reviews that say the Explorer didn't have as quite a refined a feel as the Jeep on the road, and it does lack that V8. All things being equal, I would go for the Jeep, but it may not be that they are equal. Not sure. Like I said, it will just make my choice harder than I thought it would be *if* Jeep doesn't deliver the feature (here's hoping they do!). I was actually thinking of ordering one when the banks opened since they also addressed my criticism of lack of color availability and I really like the new interior changes.

When will the info on the remaining models be released, when order banks open or before?

Perhaps being from podunk is what makes our experiences unique. I once felt silly for using my phone to navigate home from work, but living the northern virginia/DC area, with so many road choices, there are definitely times that google routes me some places I would have never thought were quicker - and likely aren't, but are on that particular day. It also picks up on temporary road closures (I would have been in real trouble when the Pope visited because I didn't think of checking specific closures that day), not to mention relatively accurate traffic alerts about disabled traffic lanes (although it could still use some improvement as it doesn't always tell me which of the four lanes is closed always, although does offer to route me around if it thinks it will be faster - I trust this will improve over time). I also remember that when I moved into my new house (before this one), although the road had been there for over 4 years, it still wasn't on the "maps" even after paying the fee for the new maps. And when they finished building a major artery that connected it not only to the west, but also from the east, you had to remember which way you were coming and tell it either to go to my house, or some other random address on the other side so it would route you in a non-circuitous route to that new way. Neither was an issue for google maps. Less than a week after the new road opened, it was available for routing on google.

I can understand why some people may not view the feature is important (I am sure *someone* thinks that headlamp washers are a really necessary thing - but that isn't me), but it is a high importance feature on my list. I'm not saying unilaterally if they don't deliver it I am going to take my ball and go home - just that I will more seriously evaluate my options (including waiting).
