They all remind me of a stroll through a rental car lot. You have refrigerator white, coal black, silver gray, dark gray, blue gray, and a red metallic ( thankfully) . What I would really like is the ability to order " color to spec" and would certainly be willing to pay extra for it. Seems like they would be happy to pick up an extra 2 or 3 thousand for painting a GC a different color.~snip~
Theoretically, the new paint system they installed in late 2014 is supposed to be able to be more flexible with regards to colors, so "technically" offering more colors or custom colors might be possible. The challenge, however, is the marketplace is so keyed into folks "buying off the lot" that the effort to support something like custom colors may not pay off financially without really jacking up the prices.

That said, I absolutely agree that the color choices today (and this isn't limited to Jeep as you also mention) is dismal. I personally am drawn to "different" and there just isn't a lot of "different" available. It's frustrating for sure.

To be complete, I have the same issue with interiors on JGC at the upper trim levels. Pretty much every "luxury" vehicle out there has an ivory/tan/beige interior available. Not Summit. The new dove gray/indigo is helpful in that respect, but it still is stuck with that dark component (the indigo). There are many of us who prefer light colored interiors and Summit seems to miss the boat...still.

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

If I go with another GC red velvet will definitely be the color I choose but it is certainly not what I would consider a "vibrant" color. In the absence of the ability to specify a color I would like to be able to order a GC Summit from a color palette more like the ones offered to Challenger and Wrangler buyers than the colors offered to purchasers of mini vans which FCA seems to lump GC purchasers together with regarding color preferences.

Prior the Wrangler Unlimited we had a 14 GC with the previous red metallic version. Never had anyone make a single comment. In the year that we have had the Hydro Blue Pearlcoat Wrangler, if I had a dollar for every time a complete stranger has come up to me and told me how much they liked the color and asked what it was called I could pay for dinner for two at a nice restaurant.

I realize it is what it is and I will either buy a GC Summit or I won't but my fervent hope is that someone at FCA will read this and think to themselves " maybe every GC Summit buyer does not prefer subdued colors" . Probably too much to hope for.

It really is a great color. It's hard to really capture just how good it looks in the sun, but if you check out my garage and album pics, you can get an idea.

Yeah but you have to understand FCA is in business to sell vehicles and make money. The Grand Cherokee is not a Challenger, nor does it appeal to the same people. No one is going to buy a lime green Grand Cherokee (well maybe a select few). I think the most radical WK2 color made yet would have been the 70th Anniversary "bronze Star" color. Guess how many of those I have seen on the street? 0
Doesn't look terrible, but would I ever buy one? no. Would it be hard for me or a dealer to sell some day? yup.

I've seen that color a couple times. Definitely draws my eye, but I would never buy that color.

2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Yeah I was just thinking I couldn't imagine a lime green GC or a blue one. Or yellow. Call me basic but that's not my thing unless it's on a lambo.

If you're into blues, FCA does offer a decent amount for the GC compared to the variety of other domestic autos on SUVs. True blue, maximum steel, granite. All three are better than what you can find on an Explorer, Edge, Traverse or Equinox. If you're wanting something bright, the Durango R/T is the closest with bright red (not sure what it's called exactly). The most unique I can think of is that shit orange color that comes on the newer Muranos. Yuck. I'd take boring gray over that crap.

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

I certainly understand your argument but disagree with the underlying premise which seems to be " Challenger and Wrangler buyers are offered bright vibrant colors among others from which to choose. They frequently choose the bright vibrant colors. Grand Cherokee buyers are not offered the choice of bright vibrant colors from which to choose therefore their color preferences must be different from buyers of Challengers and Wranglers and very few would choose those colors even if they were given the option "
I remember someone telling me that Starbucks would be a complete failure because " no one would pay that much for a cup of coffee" of course they wouldn't until someone gave them the option to do so.
I am not sure that the fact not many examples of the special edition bronze were sold is supportive of GC buyers only being interested in subdued colors. When we purchased our 14 GC there was a kind of tan/white/ GC setting on the floor I don't think that one sold well either and I believe I read that Jeep is dropping one of it's gray tones for 2017.
I agree that FCA can do whatever they want but I believe that their are a lot of us that love the GC but hate the limited color selection.
I do believe that at some point one of the car companies will expand their color selection of their SUV's to include some brighter colors and if I am correct the others will be forced to follow suit. If I am wrong I suppose I better buy one and plan on driving it for a long time😀

Well that's cool, I didn't like it anyways 😂😂 It was too purple for my taste. But a selection is always nice to have I suppose.

Yes, it wasn't my favorite, either, but you're correct that choices are nice. Too many "shades of grey" these days across pretty much every vehicle manufacturer...

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

Speaking of blues, ^^^Jim_in_PA's signature picture reminds of a short lived blue color that you certainly don't see many of. "Winter Chill". That was a fairly extreme color for the Grand Cherokee. I think I can remember seeing 1 Winter Chill WK2 out in the wild.

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

You are correct. Winter Chill is a beautiful color. A guy who runs a restaurant near my home has one. I often see it as I pass by and it always catches my eye. If it were still available I would certainly order one.
I would really really really love to be able to order a Hydro Blue Pearlcoat.
