My understanding (perhaps incorrect) was that the 8.4 uconnect in the 2016 is the 4th gen (thus siri voice and the drag and drop interface), and that the android/apple support would be added later via a software update. Prior to ordering my 2016 I called uconnect (as I didn't really want NAV but wanted apple play) and they told me that all of the 2016 8.4's (both nav and not nav) in the GC would be getting both via an update. Now it is very possible that they didn't know what they were talking about, but I am hopeful.

Headlight washer only works when the headlights are on from what I remember and experience.

Not trying to be a wise guy, just looking to be educated. Please explain to me why these apps are so important to some. Since I already have the 8.4 including nav, what else do I need?

Re: 2017 Grand Cherokee - Features & Changes

To name a few that are important to me for android auto:
* Live traffic updates on virtually all roads
* Live traffic avoidance - change routes when better ones pop up (or when the current one gets really bad!)
* Constantly up-to-date map data, including temporary road closures
* Much faster and complete voice search ("Navigate to Home Depot", "Navigate to Matt's home")
* New features in the actual map software (ex: I really like the new update google maps added a few weeks ago that hovers on the map at a turn point expanded guidance)

Of a lesser importance to me, but might be to others:
* Better voice input and speech output for texting applications (with frequent updates for better input recognition - google is amazing in what you can just naturally speak to it and it can figure out what you said and what you want)
* Integration of google reviews on destinations (For example, restaurants)
* Tighter integration of google music and other third party streaming services [Not too sure on if you need a uconnect subscription for use of the 'apps' or not, but you sure wouldn't need one for them on google auto]

Ok great I'll keep that in mind next time so that I don't give my clean car a washer fluid bath! Thanks

To add to GrayJeep's list:
  • You also get seamless integration of your phone such as though it is like running your phone on the screen in your dash. So for music you access all of it, and your playList's in the native app interface (vs a clunky alphabetical list)
  • For maps you never need to pay $400 to get a map update

Milous

You say 'then you won't be able to get red seats" in a reply regarding the Trailhawk. Is this to mean that the seats will be available in red like the 10A Rubicon or that the seats will be black with red stitching accents?

The 2016's? I thought it was just the 2017's MIGHT have Carplay. Are you saying the 2016's and 2017's BOTH MIGHT be able to be software updated too Carplay and Android Auto?

I thought that the 2017's were getting a new version of uconnect hardware?

That is what the guy at uconnect said when I called and asked FWTW. Fiat/Chryslers blog seems to back this up: (http://media.fcanorthamerica.com/new...=17210&mid=102), specifically this bit:

"Uconnect team announces fourth-generation Uconnect systems featuring improved performance; Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™ will be available globally in select models during 2016"

Does your uconnect system have LTE or just 3G? I heard the new uconnect hardware did LTE but maybe I am wrong?

Thanks.

Mine is still in the factory (D1 status today!), so I can't answer this yet.
