Re: 2017 NEW Jeep GC - Destroyed

Jeez at those dumb drivers who think passing red light would be okay... I m glad ur okay but sorry about your beautiful Jeep. I am surprised that airbag didn't deploy? That makes me think about my jeep incident in 2014- bad hit on the side but no airbag deployed.

Re: 2017 NEW Jeep GC - Destroyed

Wow so sorry about your misfortune because of some idiot. Glad you're okay! From looking at the photos the Jeep may not be totaled unless you have wheel damage.
As you probably know you'd be better off if the insurance does total it otherwise you'll take a bad hit when you trade it in.

Please keep us updated and again sorry about your new Jeep.

Good thing you were in a JEEP. May have been a lot worse in one of those "smaller" Suv's. Heal quick and good luck with the insurance companies.

While the majority (if not all?) US modern day vehicles are "safe", I don't agree with your statement. I mean, he's injured. And the GC isn't even a Top Safety Pick, let alone a TSP+

Looks pretty good to me https://www.nhtsa.gov/vehicle/2017/J...EROKEE/SUV/4WD

Also keep in mind that the crash tests are normalized to their weight. A bigger SUV has more mass than a smaller SUV.

More mass doesn't help with a solid structure but does against another vehicle.

Also the Insurance Instutute has not tested it since early 2014.

I didn't say it was bad. I'm not hating. When was the last MY that the NHTSA tested the GC? And does it matter if it was a 2014? We've never heard any word on changes to it and I'm sure we would have.

The Crash protection system has changed a couple times. I'm not sure how much that weighs in general rating.

Structurally I don't know of changes.

I was a little surprised to see it dinged for rollover testing though.

Ouch! That makes me sick. A brand spanking new rig and pow. Sorry to hear that. Hope your injures heal quickly and everyone is OK. Guess that give you an excuse to move up the next model? Looks like it was a beautiful ride.

Rollover rating is strictly mathematical. They look at width, height and other factors and get some kind of value. It isn't based on anything tangible.

This does make sense but are you sure? IIHS tests by crushing the roof. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1489583846.439364.jpg

Unless something changed rollover and roof strength aren't exactly the same thing. It was an article I read some time ago but it was before roof strength was measured.
