Re: 2017 NEW Jeep GC - Destroyed
FWIW, don't assume that just because your state doesn't officially recognize DV that you can't get it either. Ohio is one of the states that reportedly don't recognize DV. When my truck was damaged, the initial agent told me "no there's no Diminished Value coverage in Ohio". This was from the at fault driver's insurance. So I called my insurance agent to ask what their take on it was (to see if they were just trying to avoid a payout). My agent confirmed they were not making it up, and that we don't officially do that here.
However, after calling the guys insurance company back, I politely asked for a supervisor for "a question" and ended up getting an agent who at least knew what I was talking about. They got the ball rolling and managed to get me to an agent that specialized in DV cases. After jumping through some hoops I got a check for diminished value even though Ohio allegedly don't do that.
Moral of the story, don't give up, and be prepared to put some effort into it. The other thing I would note is to not be hostile about it. This is a more flies with honey situation in getting this claim started. The DV claim will have a different claim number than your damage claim. If you're a jerk to the people on the phone, there will be no incentive to try to help you out and find someone who can help you. They'll simply say, "we don't do that" and may be fully capable of leaving it at that.
The sheep generally do not like the sheepdog. He looks a lot like the wolf. They would prefer the sheepdog cash in his fangs, spray paint himself white, and go, “Baa.”
Until the wolf shows up. Then the entire flock tries desperately to hide behind one lonely sheepdog.
