2017 refresh

Buying a house is an investment when your intentions are to renovate and sell to turn a quick profit of more than you probably make a year. Buying a HOME is a just a waste of money. Endless repairs, endless taxes, endless utility bills and for what? To hope the economy is good when you need to sell your outdated shoebox?

Anyways. I like buying new. I'll buy a 2016. Most likely will skip the 17, but I'll be in line again for an 18. Unless my wife and I both lose our jobs, stop paying 25% into retirement and we become disabled. Until then I'm going to continue stimulating the economy because my career allows me to do so. I don't work my ass off to drive used cars.

I bought a 2011 Overland in 2014, and a year later they are still selling for the same price... $28,000... Window sticker on mine is $56,000.. Original owner likely paid $50,000, and got maybe $25,000 on trade in for me to be able to buy it for $27,500...

If that works for you, that's great.

Still nothing like a new vehicle.

Re: 2017 refresh

I came into this world with nothing, and will leave it the same way. In the meantime, I'll buy new.

I do understand buying used if the difference will make an appreciable difference in your ability to take care of other things. But saving for the sake of saving isn't for me. I also don't believe in having a garage full of stuff I will never use again. But, to each their own.

I've never lost money on a house. Not even factoring in rent money savings. Of course I've always bought used homes...

this thread is a real gem...

Clearly dealing with an idiot. I'm sorry you're too lost to be shown the way. Sucks to drop $600 a month on a car only mildly upgraded from a model 2-3 years old with 20-30k miles on it.

But as you said, to each their own.

I've also never lost money on a home, ever. Whether they were flips or lived in.

Again, not everyone knows what they are doing.

Locked down by a wife and her input? I pity you..

Enjoy throwing away thousands and thousands of dollars for perpetuity ...

Not everyone needs to have car payment to have a new car every couple of years. Even with payments, $600 a month for some is going out to dinner money. You can't expect everyone to be in the same financial situation. Some people are still hoping to save enough to retire. Others already retired and find that as they get older their net assets are still going up instead of down.

Disagreeing with you, certainly doesn't make someone an idiot. Maybe just the opposite, but I'd just be guessing.

Lol what does that have to do with anything? I never said anything about what can be afforded. I could afford to lease a Lamborghini but I choose not to.

I own a 2011 Overland (currently wrecked) and a 2013 SRT8.

I own two bad ass (in my opinion) vehicles, for the price of what many pay to lease just one...

Disagreeing with fact is idiocy..

I am with you Bill. Been retired for 12 years and been buying a new GC every 3 years. Hopefully the MY17s will be available in August when my 14 Overland will be 3 years old. I just like to drive a new vehicle with a 3 year warranty. I could still be driving my 2011 Limited if I wanted to save some money. My neighbor 3 houses down the street owns it and is very happy with it. He wants my 14 when I trade for the MY17. But I agree you can save lots of dollars buying used. Al
