Re: 3.6 Pentastar made in Michigan and Mexico

Here's the correct information on the new 2013 Ram 1500's and where they will be built -

Production of the 2013 Ram 1500 is scheduled for third quarter of 2012, with all regular cabs assembled in Saltillo, Mexico; and Quad and Crew Cabs in Warren, Michigan.
The 2013 Ram 1500 is built at the Warren Truck Assembly Plant (Warren, Mich.), which has built more than 12.5 million trucks since it started operations in 1938. Regular Cab models of the 2013 Ram 1500 are built at the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Saltillo, Mexico.

I would be willing to bet that the JGC will probably start to be manufactured in Mexico as well in the next few years.

I doubt it.

1.) Jefferson North was upgraded to be one of the most advanced mass production vehicle factories in the US.
2.) The assembly line will also soon be sent up to produce the Grand Cherokee, the Durango, but also their new platform brethern from Maserati.
3.) UAW contracts will most likely prohibit it.

4.) The marketting value of "made in the USA". Was a consideration of mine.

I am not saying they will stop producing them in the US, just open another plant in Mexico like they did with the Pentastar and produce them in both plants.

Won't happen... The grand cherokee is and always has been built at jefferson north in detroit. They did not open a new plant in mexico this is an engine plant they have had for many many years and also builds the hemi. There is plenty of capacity at jefferson for the JGC so that is the only plant for north america it will be built at.

EXACTLY. I don't care how well vehicles are made in Mexico or what luxury brands are made in Mexico. If I'm buying a Jeep or a F150, I want a vehicle made in North America. Not Mexico.

And where do you think Mexico is actually located? It is sharing a long border with USA, just like Canada. They are a friendly country to USA, just like Canada. It's just the engine. I don't disagree on this issue, but let's all exhale and relax a little.
